Arrival Story:
In the summer of 2003 the local animal control officer came into my office on a Thursday afternoon with a box containing four kittens, one ginger, three black, that couldn't have been more than three weeks old. He said "If I take them to the pound, they'll just die," so of course I took them. I found a home for the little yellow one, but ended up raising all three of the black ones on a dropper. Two were given away when they were old enough to eat, but by the time someone called about Raven, it was too late. I was hers.

She's my snuggle baby -- at night, when I get in the bed, she crawls up beside me and sleeps in my arms, with my cheek resting on her side.

The Luckiest Cat in the World by Raven

Hold on there!

Good grief! There is no party. I REPEAT -- NO PARTY! Our human bean would have a fit if a bunch of cats turned up at our house. There will be NO KITTEN-KABOBS! I cannot stress this strongly enough. Sauda is just being her usual catty self. You know, don't you, that her middle initial stands for "Evil." See why?

The fine art of "hampering"

I know every kitty who reads this knows what "hampering" is. But for the sake of the beans reading this, I will explain. Every cat learns to become a skilled "hamperer." What exactly IS "hampering" you might ask? Well, let's say your bean is sitting at the breakfast table, drinking a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. Hampering is lying down on the newspaper so your bean can't see it anymore. Same works with books -- and computers. If you're doing it at the computer, you should try to lay across their forearms. That's always worked best for me.

Hampering can be sleeping in the middle of a dark hallway so your bean trips over you. It can even be hiding in your special kitty portable black hole so your bean has to search and search (and still not find you) for hours. These things make our beans notice us and appreciate us more.

Last night, my bean was lying in bed reading a book. When she was on her back especially I insisted on lying on her chest so I could reach up and snag the book (or her hand) with a claw. She shouldn't be paying attention to that old thing anyway, when she has a sleek, soft, loving kitty to pet, right??

I'm not sure she agreed really, but at last, with a laugh, she put that dumb old book down and paid attention to sweet lovable ME! Hampering *works*! Try it at YOUR house!

Oh, dear! A rainy weekend...

YAWWWWNN! I'm so sluggish and sleepy this morning.

It rained all weekend, and our bean made us stay inside. Well, she let me and China go out early on Saturday, before the wet stuff really started to fall, but it was cold and damp out there so it wasn't long before we were screaming to come back inside where it's warm.

Of course, once we got into the house and got warm and dry, we were back at the door again. Jenn-mom fusses at us. She says we come in the front door, out of the rain, and ten minutes later we go to the BACK door and want to be let out again, assuming the weather is different on that side of the house. Hmph! That's not really true. It's just that once we get warm and comfy, we naturally assume that the bad stuff outside went away and it's also warm and cozy outside as well. We don't have the same sense of inside weather being different from outside weather that the beans do!

Anyway, if we had to be inside those two days, at least we had our bean with us. She's a lot like a cat, you know. She doesn't like cold, wet weather either! So when it's rainy outside, she stays in if she doesn't have to go to her working place that day. We like those days, because we get to take turns in her nice comfortable lap, and she pets us and talks to us and gives us treats.

Of course, today she did go to her work place...and she left us inside! I guess that means the wet stuff is still falling -- but now we have no lap to lie in. I think I'll go see what kind of trouble I can get into.
