Arrival Story:
I visited my vet's office and saw this little guy in one of the cages. He and his littermates had been attacked by a dog and he was the only survivor. His lower lip was pulled loose from his jaw and had been reattached with a wire. When his "owners" found out how much it was going to cost, they never came back to get him, so he came home with me!

Zeus has the sweetest purrsonality. When I'm kicked back in my recliner, he likes to lie on my chest, wrap his front legs around my neck, and "kissy" -- nibble on my chin and nose and headbutt. UPDATE: DEC. 16, 2004 After an illness the vet diagnosed as an upper respiratory infection, Zeus lost his sight. The vet doesn't know why exactly, but thinks it MIGHT be high blood pressure or toxmoplasmosis (in this case, an infection of the optic nerve). He's taking an anti-biotic and high blood pressure medicine, but after two full weeks, there has been no change. Zeus and his mom, Jenn, ask all cat lovers for their prayers. He's only two -- terribly young to live out a life with no sight. UPDATE FEB. 2 -- Zeus visited his vet yesterday (my birthday) for an upset tummy, and she checked his eyes for the first time since his blindness was diagnosed. She says she's not sure exactly how much he sees (he does still bump into things sometimes) but she's sure he's able to see something. THANKS for all your good wishes and prayers on his behalf!! What a great birthday present for me! UPDATE FEB. 27: SOMEHOW, THIS MORNING EARLY ZEUS MANAGED TO SLIP OUT THE DOOR. IT IS NOW 9 P.M. AND I HAVE NOT SEEN HIM ALL DAY. I BEG OF YOU, CATLOVER, SEND UP A PRAYER FOR MY VISION IMPAIRED LOVE TO MAKE HIS WAY HOME, SOMEHOW, TO ME!! FINAL UPDATE, MAY 1: Zeus has not come home. It's been two months now and, though I still have a very hard time talking about it, I've accepted the fact that he's gone for good. I just pray that if he's alive he's found a safe refuge and if he's not, I'll see him again one day at Rainbow Bridge.

Today, I uploaded a farewell photo of my Zeus. It's his last kiss, captured on film. Please pray for him, wherever he is.

This is Zeus' mom, and I'm adding one final note to this diary. Zeus never came back home. I don't suppose I'll ever know what happened to him, but I pray that wherever he is -- alive somewhere or waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge -- that he is safe and knows that I loved him and I miss him desperately. He will live always in my memory.

Zeus' mom is very scared

Hello all. I'm writing this for Zeus, who has many friends on catster. Somehow Zeus managed to slip outside without my realizing it. It might have happened when I let the dog out at 5 a.m. It might have happened when I let the other cats out at 8 a.m. By the time I realized he wasn't in the house, an hour had passed and he was nowhere to be found. I've walked all over the area, and I've driven up and down the highway, but I have seen no sign of him at all. This could be good -- he's having his first adventure in many months and isn't ready to be brought inside -- or it could be bad -- his vision is not as good as I was hoping and he's managed to stray so far from home he can't find his way back.

Pleasepleaseplease everyone send up a prayer that my little boy is okay. It absolutely breaks my heart into a thousand little pieces to think I am responsible for him being in this predicament. I should have been paying closer attention to who was going outside. Will I ever snuggle with him again? Oh, please God, I pray so.

Jenni, Zeus's mom
