Leave a treat for Kelsey (Rainbow Bridge)

Nicknames: Kelsey-Kins; The Princess; The Queen Bee

Quick Bio:
Likes: Kelsey likes to have a warm lap to snuggle in, a warm hand to stroke her long--LONG fur, a litterbox, food, and water---and she is good to go.

Pet-Peeves: Other cats who think they are more special than she. She really hates it when one of the other three get in her favorite spot. When that happens...much hissing is generated.

Favorite Toy: She isn't interested is such foolishness. She wonders why any cat would want to play with a toy when there are so many laps to try out.

Favorite Nap Spot: My lap--and if she can't get that--she'll settle for someone else's lap. If there are no laps available, she'll get into her favorite rocking chair.

Favorite Food: IAMs

Skills: She has extra toes--so Kelsey always looks as if she's in first position (ballet). We've come to realize (and her papers say this as well), she throws up everyday. You just gotta love them, though...ya know.

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story: While visiting at the Humane Society of North Pinellas, I was especially drawn to this cat...or uh..er...I should say, she was drawn to me. She spent the better part of one Saturday afternoon in my lap. I went back the next day...same thing. She hissed and spit at any cat who came near me while she sat in my lap. She is definitely a "one-person" cat who has little need for cat companionship. She just wants her humans and that's it. She tolerates the others if they don't get in her way.

Bio: Update on Kelsey as of February 4, 2005. As I write this I write knowing Kelsey will not be with me much longer. I've only had her six short weeks--as she was adopted on December 12th, 2004. Since the adoption, I knew something wasn't quite right with her. It began with her daily vomiting. Initially the vet thought she had IBD (feline inflammatory bowel disease). Her WBC count was high (55,000) and she was too thin (8.5 pounds at the time of her adoption). The vet put her on a round of prednisolone to (hopefully) alleviate what might be inflammation.
I took her back for a recheck of her WBC. In just two and a half weeks it was up to 72,000 and she'd lost one pound. At that time the vet put her on an antibiotic, but also noted her tummy felt, "lumpy." I knew the vet suspected cancer.
This past week as we finished up the antibiotic, I thought it looked as though she'd lost more weight. I took her back to the vet yesterday (2-3-05) and yes, she'd lost another pound. This time they did an x-ray and it confirmed what everyone suspected. She has an enormous tumor in her stomach.
My choices are: 1.) try to get her through surgery to see what's what and if it could be removed (doubtful as it takes up most of her stomach) or 2.) let her live out her days in peace.
I chose number 2. I just don't think she's healthy enough to make it through surgery...and judging from the size of the tumor, I am not optimistic it could be removed even if she were.
Kelsey is my sweet big girl...and I am blessed she chose me to help her through this transition in her life.
Update February 9, 2005: Kelsey has passed on to wait for me at Rainbow Bridge. However short the time we shared, it was precious and she was dearly loved. For more pictures of Kels, copy and paste this URL: http://www.dougandnancyjohnson.com /Page6.html
