When is a cat tree just a cat tree? Is it just a cat tree, or somethings more? We is having that debate at my house right now. Ya sees, we has a lot of scratchers/trees at my house. We even gave Harrison his favfurrrite one when he went to get his new fur evfur home.
So, here's the blues we has, mommy needs to probably get rid of one of my trees, the biggest, tallest one. Ya sees, it keeps getting moths in it, no matter how much mommy cleans it. Mommy read somewhere that it could be from cat hair stuck in it, and since Harrison used it the most, his hair is still stucks in it, even though mommy vacuumed and everfurrythings. Plus, we just has so much clutter too, but it's tha biggest, tallest one I has!!!
And tha honest truth, which mommy realized last night, was that it's kinda the last big reminder of my brofur Indiana, and even Harrison too, since they used the cat tree mostest. It was silly a'mommy last nights, she got tha weepies ovfur a cat tree and the idea of throwing it out!!! And she even gots inta a arguments too ovfur it!
Of course too, that's when I decided ta sits on it again, even though I don't use it much except fur scratching and stretching my paws.
Has any other mommy of yours had the sadness over something like this? I think mommy feels upsets too cause why can't she just let something like that go? Is it silly ta gets upsets? I am not sure how I feels about it. Since I am head cat, I own evfurrything, but does I really need a cat tree that isn't tha bestest anymores?
Why is it so hard to let things go, things that most people's think are silly things ta get upsets ovfur?
Jen haved that too. She say isa "mem'ries" nots the stuff. She 'fraid 'at without the kitty stuffs, she gonna furgets. Peeples is funny that way. They's not like us kitties--we lives fur now. We 'memmers our lessons, & lives our lives.
Totally normal. I agree with Ingen and Jen's wisdom - couldn't have said it better.
Sometimes it is hard to get rid of things that remind us of our siblings. Maybe your Mommy could take a picture of it so she will always be reminded of the kitties that used to use the cat tree! I just visited Harrison's page, and saw a picture of him on the cat tree, so she will always have photos to remind her of that tree!
memories stick with us sweetie and your mommy will always have those. It's hard, my mommy cries over silly things sometimes too. She thinks of little things that I played with. When Finney came along it took months for mommy to let him lay in my big bed. But it suits him, it's huge!
thanks fur understanding and fur your comments-humans can be so emoshunals sometimes! You all are very wise and insighful! Thank mew so much =)
Momories! that is why, she remembers when Indiana loved being on it and Harrison too...it is always hard to let things go when they remind you of your sweet babies.
Mom is the same way, I loved my cat tree, inside was my safe space, no one bothered me there, I always hung out on it, now Tu Two and Kody play on it and hang out, but not like I did. Mom knows she can't get rid of mine either too many memories for me on and in it...
Maybe that is what your Mom is feeling! It is hard to let go of things that remind Moms of their babies...
My mom hasn't gotten rid of the cat tree in her room. We don't use it much but she feels that it is good to have....It does remind her of Natasha.
My mom got Juliette and me a very large tree from Molly and Friends. It was expensive but it is wonderful. It came in one piece and 80 pounds. She brought it up the stairs by herself. We love it. Juliette adores it.
As for the old tree, we still use it at times...It is ok to get weepy. It is ok to keep it but those moths concern me. nasty bugs......Perhaps, your mom can donate it to a cat place where they may need it. Then, she will feel better....Some cat is still using it.......
Yeah, momories! They is so important! Oh Alexander, mommy wants to let another kitty has it, but if it keeps having moths, we don't want them to spread. Mommy was near it today and moved a toy and there was mother moth! It's so icky. My auntie said mommy should takes a piece of the tree and wash it really really good again and hopefully the piece will be ok. It seems like the moths are in the deep corners. We gots some bug stuff too that's holistic and pet friendly, but I guess it didn't works. Mommy was saying to auntie today, it's it funny how such a small kitty, whether they has been with you fur 2 months, 2 years, or fur a long time, can has such a huge impact on us. It's so true!
I wonder if the moths are actually coming from the wood?
Hmmmm, I'm not sure Samoa! Mom's checked everywhere, but it only seems to be in the top perch all around the inside edges! We still has it, mom is going to see if she can find any more info!
A quick search found that you might try cinnamon sticks or cloves. Is the carpet on that tree wool? It's hard to believe it would be wool carpet because that is more expensive than the other stuff, but hard to believe moths would be in carpet that isn't wool.
LOOK WHAT I JUST FOUND:
Moths are also drawn to the keratin in dog and cat fur!
I also read that they don't like light, so if the sun is shining, set that cat tree outside. Be careful with mothballs as they can be bad if a cat gets them. I'm thinking you might want to leave it outside so those moths don't travel to your clothes or other places where there might be cat fur (which in our house would be everywhere!).
Thanks Samoa!!!! That's what we read too, about the cat hair, and boy did Harrison sheddddd lots on that top perch! No matter how much we take out, more seems to be there! I wish we had a backyard to put it in, maybe we can move it back to the sunniest window and see if that helps! Thanks fur the moth ball tip too! We got some stuff that was spray and some sachets that are supposed to be ok fur pets. Last night mom washed most of my cat beds too just in case. S far we hasn't seen em in the closet, thank goodness, maybe cause this tree is in the living room? But moths travel! I try ta catch them!
