melting my heart; appearing suddenly out of nowhere
I originally hail from Scottsdale, AZ. My daddy lived there for a year before moving back to the east coast. I loved my daddy and mommy very much. I was daddy's little boy. Daddy worked from home so it was just us guys for a while. And for some reason I started striking out at mom. It started with me jumping at her legs and then one day out of nowhere, I went for her eyes!!!! I don't know why I did it. I heard them talking that maybe I was jealous that when mom came home, she got dad's attention....maybe...and then they were afraid that I would go after the human child.
Daddy tried putting me outside...I just sat on the lawn furniture waiting to be brought back inside...that was for two whole days. Meanwhile, Daddy tried finding me a new home...he called every shelter he could find...they all said the same thing...at his age...put him down...even my vet said that!! Daddy anquished over what to do for those two days, and with no other options in sight, ...he put me in my carrier with my favorite kitty toy and it was off to the vet for me where fate stepped in......
Salem was literally rescued from certain death about a week and a half before he was adopted. One of my co-workers (Des) was at the vet's office to have one of our store's ferrets checked out. While she was waiting, Salem(formerly known as Chief) was brought in by his dad. Seems Salem was scratching his mom's face and they were afraid that he would also scratch their child's face as well. The vet said that all they could do is put him down!!!!!! Des called me at work and I told her to bring him to the store and we'd try to find him a home. I didn't really want another cat, but after a week and a half of not being able to find him a new home , I finally caved and brought him home!
I think Salem's scratching problems stemmed from his former mom getting more attention from daddy at times... Salem was daddy's little boy and he got jealous. I haven't had any problems with him....he is a sweetie and seems to be tolerating his furbrother and fursisters just fine. I changed his name because I figure he was getting a new start and a new home so why not a new name...a fresh start all around!

I've made a friend in my new family! MONTY!! She really seems to like me! We touch noses, she lays on top of my crate and we bat paws through the openings and we play tag!! *happy paw dance*

Whew! I had a really close call a few weeks ago! I was literally snatched from the hands of death by this really nice lady named Des who rescued me from the vet who was gonna send me to the Bridge. (see my story above) Lucky for me she was there (she told me that she doesn't normally make vet's appointments that early!) Bastet was surely looking out for me that day!
Anyhoo, she takes me to this place she works at and there I meet my future mom. Mom wasn't ready to adopt another kitty, but I kept working my devilish charms and her and voila! A week and a half later she caved and here I am!
I went from a single cat household to a multi-cat one, but so far, so good. I'm still establishing myself here and I have my crate as a safe haven should I feel scared.
My mom is spoiling me (of course); she lets me know I am loved (she gives great hugs and chin and ear scratches) and she even warms my food in the microwave!!!
My mom calls me Salem Saberhagen after that cat on TV. But only when I do something I shouldn't...otherwise it's just Salem. My name used to be Chief, but she figured new home, new beginning, new name...I LIKE IT!
