Arrival Story:
We were looking for a cat to adopt for about 3 years, but we never quite found one. We recently moved from Michigan to Florida, and drove by an animal shelter. With really no hope of finding anything appealing, we walked in, and there he was. A black and white kitten, with our name all over him. Something about the way he looked at us said, "Pick me! Pick me!" And so we did.

A New Life

So I've been wandering the streets for a while now. I was found in Pompano Beach as a stray. I was born on April 7th, 2007. It was scary at first, being in a cage, getting felt around by weird creatures in white coats with needles. When they put a needle in my leg the first time, it was a shock. But it was over quickly, and I was put back in the small cage. I am a naturally fearless boy, so I put on my brave face. I was sitting in my cage one day, just grooming myself, when the door opened. I secretly feared it was a white-coat with a needle. I had gotten a lot of needles in my legs, but this time, it was just visitors; sometimes other people come in and poke in our cages. There are other cats here, some just babies, so I know I'm not alone. These humans were two children, and a woman. They walked around and the girl kept playing with one of the younger kittens that had moved recently two doors down from me. The woman and the boy kept playing with me, and, to be cute, I rolled on my back and purred. The humans like that. The woman called to the girl, who was interestingly whispering to the grey kitten. She looked up at the sound of her name. "Hey Lya, come check this guy out! He's playful!" The woman said. I cocked my head to the side. The girl came over, looked at me once, and said, "Yeah, but this one over here is cuter, Mom." The mother sighed. "Yes, but all kittens are going to be cute. Remember our discussion? NO KITTENS. Period." They started arguing over the grey cat, and I only looked on. That grey kitten was a part of a litter that just came in, and the rest of them were housing above me. I usually ignored them, but their constant bickering and rough-housing annoyed the crap out of me. I just wanted to get back on the streets and live my life the way I wanted to, I never gave a second thought to house life. The humans left. I suppose they went to the stray cat room. But those cats weren't adoptable. They had just gotten in. That was where I went when I first came. I shuddered as I remembered the white-coats, and their needles. Then I chuckled darkly as I thought of what the cats in there had to go through with next. I remembered who creepy it was to be next to the rack of feral cats, who would moan and meow through the night of their pain. It was scary, thinking how much they suffered and how the humans could not understand a word of it. The three humans came back and interrupted my reverie. "Oh come on, look at him!" The mother said, gesturing towards me. "I like that one, I think we should get him." "I'll think about it." The girl said, and they left. About another half-hour later, what do you know; they were back. They eventually got back to arguing about the grey kitten again, and one of the humans with a shiny badge who rescued me came in to hold me. I laid across her lap, stretching, looking at the girl, who stood, staring. "It's OK, someone's gonna adopt you." The rescuer cooed. She put me gently back in the cage, and I hopped lightly on my feet. "OK, fine, he's pretty cute, I choose him." The girl finally said. "You're sure?" The woman asked, questioning the child with her eyes. "Yeah, Mom, get the paper, let's adopt him."
