The Pharoah's Wounds

This morning I took a turn for the worse and was rushed to the vet as I had four abcesses on my face and neck wounds that weren't healing as they should. The wound in my ear was infected and had to be surgically reopened and drained as did the major one on my face. All day today I remained at the vet being given strong IV antibiotics and I just returned home.

The vet told my dad that judging from my wounds, I stood my ground and the attacker probably didn't fare very well.

I have an infection from the fight that has spread through my system, but the antibiotics should fix me up in no time.

I tried to protect my sisfur Bastet and defend my home. I am Pharoah and that is what I do. I look after my furmaly and home.

The Pharoah Gets Attacked

Last night I entered into a most terrible fight with a demon right from the annals of Egyptian mythology. It all began yesterday when this demon with the glowing yellow eyes approached my sisfur, Bastet. Being the lady she was, she made no attempt to befriend him, however, this TOM thought differently. From my window I watched in horror as Bastet crouched on the ground, ears back, hissing in fear. This demon crept closer and closer, his head bowed, teeth bared and ears back.
Frantically I scratched at the door, trying to open it, however, I was unable to do so. GrandMeowmy ran to Bastet as did the Daddy Cat that is the protector of the neighborhood. He ran like a ram, butting this yellow eyed demon in the belly, rolling him to the ground. Grandmeowmy scooped Bastet up in her arms and carried her inside, her not being physically hurt. But as all furrends know and understand, she will have no other Tom but her Sweet Baba Boy.
THe stage was set for the fight. I finally was able to get out, searching and searching for this demon Tom to avenge the honor of my sisfur Goddess. But the coward would not meet me in the daylight. Instead, he laid in waiting, hiding in the dark shadows where he could not be seen.
As the clock struck midnight, so did the demon strike. In the silence of the night, between the shadows of the trees, I felt the stinging slash to the left side of my cheek. Instantly I turned, raised myself up as tall as I could, just like the cobra God of Egypt and struck my foe with both feet. He left out a blood curdling meow, but I must admit, he was a formidable foe.
He didn't return my strike, but we both had much to say to one another. I don't know how much time passed, but Grandmeowmy, Grandcat and my Dad's new lady, found us.
GrandDad chased that demon away, and Dad's new lady carried me in, with Grandmeowmy holding treats to me. I was carried inside and my war wound is not terrible. I spent the night in a warm bed feeling very sore and my war wound stinging.
Early this morning Grandmeowmy carried me upstairs to drink from the fountain of the Goddess Bastet for healing. I ate treats, watched the birds with my sisfur Bastet and I felt much better. Grandmeowmy is watching for infection. I as Pharoah will heal from this attack and my sisfur, the Goddess Bastet, is avenged.

Rocking in Fredericksburg

'They were rocking in Boston, Philadelphia PA,' as the song goes, and yesterday we were rocking here in Fredericksburg as well. A 5.8 earthquake hit here yesterday just before 1:00PM. Being about 30-40 miles from the epicenter, we shook almost 60 seconds. Sometime after 12:15 I could hear Grandmeowmy come back home from school taking things to her car and returning to school. It was that time I was outside with Dad on the patio when we noticed there was no sound of birds, squirrels, no birds were flying. Everything was strangley still. Then suddenly, shortly before 1:00 PM, it started with a loud rumbling like a helocopter followed by violent shaking. Dad was having a terrible time standing up.He was saying it reminded him of the 'EWarthquake' ride in Universal Studios in Orlando. I was with him on my leash outside and I puffed up like a blowfish.

After the quaking stopped, Dad and I walked around inside the house and picked up everything we found on the floor or what had fallen over so Grandmeowmy wouldn't be upset. Dad tried to call to Grandmeowmy at school to find out how she was, but cell phones were not operating do to the emergency. Outside Dad and I found everything pretty solid, no foundation shifts, no broken windows, cracks in the foundation or downed trees. It looks like there are a few more cracks in our drive way and it may be raised up a bit. There is a crack at the base of our front porch brick walkway and it is raised less than a quarter of an inch. We live in a subdivision and the subdivision pool has a long crack in the bottom, so the pool will be closed for the season.

Even though during the quake, I could hear things falling to the floor in closets and the garage, nothing seemed to be damaged seriously. However, in the town of Fredericksburg, itself, there was structural damage to the older houses and building. Bricks fell off buildings, windows broke, and a few old chimneys fell from houses. Today we will know a little bit more of the damage.

Yesterday GrandDad hurt his right knee pretty badly getting to safety and he doesn't know how he did it. He was rushing to safety that is all he knew, but he is unable to bend it, he is walking on a cane and needs help to get dressed and undressed. Today he is calling the doctor and since Grandmeowmy is home from school today because schools are closed for damage assement, she will take him to the doctor. He can't drive.

Other than that, we are truly blessed that it wasn't worse. Now, our eyes are on Hurricane Irene. Please, those of you on the coastlines, take shelter.

'V' Day and I Don't Mean Victory Day

Yesterday was 'v' day for me and my sisur Baby. Once we got there Baby escaped and hid under the sink behind the trash can. Good for her..she's little. I couldn't squeeze my big self anywhere, so guess what, I was first. Wasn't I the lucky one. Well I showed them who was Pharoah around there. I took my long tail and made one swipe and everything that was on the counter was knocked to the floor. I 'hummed', hissed and backed away from the vet and the assistant. I wrestled with the assistant, pulling her arm close to my teeth and she couldn't get away from me. When she was able to wrestle free of my grip I backed up into the sink. From there I rose up on my hind legs just like a cobra and struck.

I noticed the humans left and I felt like he..he..he..until..the biggest human I have seen entered the room. Again I backed up into the corner, rose on my hind legs making me taller than the human, but the human threw a bigggg towel over me and wrestled me to the counter. She laid on top of me and I felt a poke. Flea shot I heard. I swished my tail and knocked it out of my backside before the vet could get it all the way in. I thought that was over, buuttt, I had to get poked again. Plus again for rabies.

When it was over, they released me and I hid until it took 3 humans to get me into my carrier.

One good thing about this, they couldn't get an accurate weight. The lowest they got was 17 pounds while I was sqirming around. But we all know I weigh more than that.

They admitted I was the strongest cat they have seen and wondered what breed I was mixed with. It doesn't matter...just don't mess with the Pharoah. That's all they need to know. He..he..he..

Grandmeow comes to visit

Monday-April 20, 2009

Last Thursday was scarey for me, even though I am known as 'The Pharoah'. My Dad called Grandmeow who lives in Fredericksburg, 35 minutes away and told her he was so sick and needed to be taken to the hospital. He was in such pain, he couldn't drive.

He left with Grandmeow and I waited inside by the back sliding door until I heard the car come back. I raced through the living room to the front door, where Dad and Grandmeow entered. I overheard them talking that they were glad after the tests and there was nothing so serious that couldn't be treated with antibiotics.

You can imagine how relieved I was. I jumped onto my kitchen chair. You know, the one I sit on while the family eats their meals? I have my own place mat with my own food and water bowls. I am part of the family. After that, I jumped on Grandmeow, nearly knocking her over. Dad was upset. You see I am over 15 pounds now and over 2 feet long, not including the length of my long tail. My feet are almost as big as Grandmeow's hands.

I know how much she loves me. Dad and I lived with her for a few years and she played ball with me, played piano with me, and taught me how to wash my face in the sink like she does-with 2 paws. During our stay, I watched Grandpa paint the hall awhile and tried to help him. Needless to say, he was not happy painting over my footprints and Grandmeow had to wash my foot. Oh, those were the days!!!!!!!!!!!

OK... no more reminiscing. I looked for a ball to play with Grandmeow, but found a pencil instead. At least five times I tried to pick it up, like I have seen Dad do, and give it to Grandmeow, but I kept dropping it. I guess my paw is too big.

Everytime Grandmeow talked, I turned my head from side to side to listen, wagged my long tail then curled it over my back, and chortled a tune. This made Grandmeow smile and pet me. When she did, I kissed her, rubbed up against her arm and then I wanted to 'play attack' her arm, but Dad said 'don't do that to Grandma.'

I showed Grandmeow how much Dad and I like to play hide and seek. I can find him every time. And I showed Grandmeow I still could run faster than Dad. She clapped for me, kissed and petted me, then gave me some kitty treats. A few minutes later she sadly said she had to get home, the traffic would be terrible.

She kissed me, gave me a last pet and after telling me she would see me in a few weeks for a vet appointment, walked out the door.

Can't say I am happy about the thought of a vet visit, but I miss Grandmeow and was so happy to see her that day when she came for a visit.

Later--Menes
