Arrival Story: All I remember about my outside days is alot of trash, cold weather and the loud train that went by every 20 minutes. In nearly the entire month of November 1999, I was so cold and hungry until one day a car drove up. A teenage boy got out with a bowl of dry food and some old towels. The old towels were warm and the food tasted good: better than scraps of bread, shrimp shells and chicken I found in trash bags. A few days before Thanksgiving, the teenage boy drove up but with no food. He clicked his tonge like he did when he came everyday to see me, and being in a trash bag eating egg shells, I popped my head out through a large hole in the side and there he and a lady stood. The lady said she couldn't let me stay out in the cold, so she and later, I found out, her son, took me to their nice warm house. It wasn't far to the house, yet I fell asleep in the lady's lap. I was so small the vet didn't believe I was 6 months old until she looked at my teeth. I was so small, the lady called me Baby.
She gave me turkey for Thanksgiving and I rewarded her by not climbing all of the Christmas trees she put up in the house. Even though it was hard.

Since our Baby Bastet went to the vet yesterday and we found she had a bleeding condition, nothing has been the same around here. We have had a rough month, with Miss Kitty getting so sick, Meowmy falling and breaking a leg and hip and now Bastet.
Miss Kitty organized shifts at night where we came to check on Meowmy and check the doors, but with Bastet gone, everyone is too worried about both she and Meowmy to remain at their posts. I know this upsets Miss Kitty, but she has been gracious enough to let me and Pretty Girl stay with Meowmy on the bed at times during the night. Miss Kitty had set that up as being her job. She thinks if she lays close enough to Meowmy she can heal her and make her better.
We miss Meowmy and Bastet on the walker. Meowmy would walk around the house and Bastet made a game of chasing her or heading her off at one of the turns. She loved to chase her red boa when Meowmy attached it to the walker. We all miss watching that scene.
Last night I couldn't sleep, I paced all night; upstairs, downstairs, upstairs then back down. I finally settled down and slept awhile on the ottoman in the family room close to Meowmy's bed.
Pretty Girl came down several times, then the 3rd trip down she stayed with Meowmy on the bed for a few hours. She cried so much yesterday morning when Bastet left for the vet, she needed to spend time with Meowmy.
Today we did get some happiness. Miss Kitty was named C&D Cruise Line COTM for July. We are so proud of her. She is picking out a new gown. As she says, "One that suits my wild side." She is so happy that she has let Pretty Girl and I downstairs with Meowmy without arguing with us.
Meowmy hasn't heard from the vet about Bastet, but will let everyone know in Bastet's journal when she finds out something.
Early Monday morning we heard scraping across the foyer floor and I heard my Aunt Marian's voice say "let me get you to bed". Of course Bastet beat us all downstairs. She acted silly so I kept telling her calm down until we knew what was happening.
Next think I knew, Pretty Girl was telling me Meowmy was hurt and was going to have to stay for awhile in the bed that was taken downstairs. I went to talk to Meowmy and jumped on her bed. Bastet was trying to get Meowmy to play with her red boa and her birdie, which made sense only to a kitten.
I kept talking to Meowmy for several minutes then Pretty Girl came in the room and told me to follow her. Miss Kitty hadn't come home yet, she was coming home tomorrow. Pretty Girl told me that I needed to be quite so Meowmy could rest. And our job was to patrol the house at night in shifts.
Bastet would be sleeping with Meowmy, Miss Kitty when she came home would guard the family room door and it was our job to guard the rest of the house and be sure Meowmy was safe so she could heal.
Pretty Girl overheard That Meowmy had fallen the day after they arrived in Las Vegas and her right hip is pinned and she has a metal rod for a right tibia.
"ABOVE ALL," said Pretty Girl, "BE QUIET and DON'T WAKE MEOWMY!"
I checked on Meowmy several times during the night and Miss Kitty was at her station, Bastet was at hers and Pretty Girl and I were doing our jobs. Now I am so tired from night watch, I am due for a cat nap.
We all woke up to Meowmy running upstairs from the basement. I met her at the top of the steps and saw Meowmy with the biggest cat carrier. I heard her tell Dad that Miss Kitty was going to the vet and it was an emergency. Bastet, Pretty Girl and I followed Meowmy as she gently picked up Miss Kitty and put her in the carrier.
Miss Kitty was in such pain she cried and scared Bastet so that she ran upstairs to the bedrooms with Pretty Girl following. As Meowmy carried Miss Kitty to the car and Dad started the engine, I ran to the hall and watched out one of the side windows. I knew something was wrong...seriously wrong.
When Meowmy and Dad came home, Miss Kitty wasn't with them. I got scared because Miss Kitty is the Queen cat. She is the Protectoress of our house. Without her...I don't want to think about that.
I heard Meowmy talking to the vet when he called. Pancreitis, is what they hoped for. That could be treated. The vet needed my sister to stay until Monday to get fluids into her, to get her fever down and start eating again.
Hopefully she can come home Monday. We miss her. We have all been very nervous all day. Even Pretty Girl disappeared in hiding somewhere for awhile.
