Arrival Story:
Dembe's feline mother gave birth to him and his brother in the home and presence of his human mother in 2001. Along with his biological brother and mother, Dembe has acquired a step-brother, step-sister, an adopted sister, three adopted brothers, and one dog brother. In 2010, Dembe was diagnosed with the beginning stages of renal disease, as well as heart disease. With special food and heart medicine, he has been doing well. His personality, however, has changed slightly in regards to his interactions with his siblings. A once happy-go-lucky kitty, Dembe now often succumbs to ill-tempered behavior towards the other cats- an unfortunate consequence of his illnesses. He has lived in four states and five cities since his birth in 2001.

Dembe has the sweetest face ever. He brings joy to all who meet him. He talks constantly, poses for pictures, has the funniest smash-face when he's been asleep, let's you hold him like a baby in your arms, and gives "kisses" (butts his head against yours) when you lean down to him. He is sensitive, loving, and could brighten even the gloomiest day.

Thoughts from a Sensitive Soul

My Brother Was Found!

I do not often submit my thoughts to the page, however, today is a day of celebration! Between 4-5 months ago, by brother, Milo, disappeared. We searched hi and low for nearly two months, and then we had to move to Ohio. My moms posted reward posters everywhere. My great-Grandma stayed in SC, and was listed as a contact on the poster, in case there were any calls. After the months went by, we feared the worst, and Milo's absence filled the space of our new house in Ohio. We were all devastated. My moms cried off and on anytime his name was mentioned or when they looked at his pictures. I lost interest in activities, and just stared out the window. I grew tired of the other cats in the house, because they are not my biological siblings as Milo is, and they didn't truly understand me. I grew agitated over everything, and my moms started to worry about me.
Last night, Mommy Jami came rushing in and picked me up, crying. She said, "Dembe, they found Milo! He's coming home!" All night they laughed, cried, called friends, and picked me up over and over. The atmosphere changed in the house, and I had hope for the first time in months.
I am so happy, but it is still hard for me to believe it's true. He is in SC with great-Grandma, and it will be a couple of days before Mommy Gretchen can drive to get him. I want to see him so badly; it's hard to wait. I am still so happy, though; I had come to accept that I would never see him again, or know what happened. My prayers were answered. I believe it is a miracle!
So many kitties supported us; it was so comforting. I am thankful for their prayers and thoughts.
