Arrival Story:
I noticed a big gray kitty hanging around underneath our neighbor's truck. He was so thin and dirty that my heart just went out to him. My neighbor said that he didn't know who he belonged to and gave me permission to temporarily feed him on his lawn until I could get him to trust me enough to come over to our house. A few days later he was around again and came over to the house to get fed. The next time he came on Halloween, he brought a little girl kitty with him. They started coming every day a few days after that, then twice a day. We were finally able to pick them up and bring them into the house. They never once complained about being brought in. We got them cleaned up, tested and fixed and tried to find homes for them. We didn't get much interest and eventually fell so in love that we couldn't give them up. That's when we decided to take his temporary name of "Buddy" and change it to something that had meaning for us. Because of how he looks and his demeanour, we decided to name him Gandalf, after the wizard "Gandalf the Grey" in the "Lord of the Rings" books.

Gandalf has been a wonderful addition into our home, who has unfortunately brought some problems too. The addition of another male has been very hard on Zipper and Chance and on our two oldest girls, Arwen and Amber. While he does cause some of the problems by sometimes chasing them or crowding them, just as much of it isn't his fault, but the other cats overreacting to him. Hopefully over time, everything will calm down. Gandalf is very much a lap cat and a Mama's Boy. He gets really frustrated if he can't get to me because I am separated with our three oldest cats who prefer to be away from the youngest cats at times. He will pound on the door and cry for me. I love to cuddle with him and watch TV. He will sit on my lap and purr and gaze up at me and give me kisses. He also considers brushing to be a valid form of affection and will purr the whole time that I groom him. Good thing too, he has tons of hair!
