Arrival Story: Genna is yet another JFK rescue. She is not from the area that I rescued quite a number of cats, but instead was trapped by someone unknown and brought to Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn. I have no idea where in Kennedy she was found. I did get an urgent e-mail stating that if the cat wasn't picked up within the next couple of days, she'd be euthanized. Uh oh. I checked with my friend and she said she'd accept her in her colony, so off we set to pick her up. She was listed as "aggressive" and her personality "severe". The workers were "terrifed" of her. Oh boy. Well, no problem, we'd keep her caged for a few weeks until she got used to her new location - actually, until the weather got MUCH better, as the winter has been pretty severe here - and then be released to join the colony. Well... by the next day, she was very sick with an upper resperitory infection. They had sent her home with meds, so they knew she was sick, but nothing like what she developed overnight, poor thing. We were very worried about her, as she was hardly eating and didn't appear to be relieving herself. She sounded horrible. She totally allowed me to administer her meds and even syringe feed her water. After several days of not relieving herself and us being very worried she'd become septic, it turned out she was "going" right in her bed! She would lie there and go. That's how sick she was. Well, after several days of intense TLC, she was well enough to FINALLY use the litterbox. Whew! She was still allowing me to totally pet her, and even getting up and rubbing on my hand. I wondered if it was because she was still sick and would revert to her aggressive self once she felt better. Well, guess what? She has been an absolute sweetheart and a good month and a half have passed and her URI is long gone. She is absolutely the cutest thing! She has the cutest short tail I've ever seen! It's not stubby, just shorter than any cat I've had. :-) Anyway... so much for her being "aggressive"!! I'd love the ACC workers to see her now! They wouldn't believe it. I hope I can find her a good home soon. She sure deserves one.

Boy, when I said I think I'm gonna like it here, I had NO idea how much!
First of all, the new lady and her companion are sooooo nice! She talks to me so sweetly and calls me nice names. I think she's my new mommy too! She calls me her baby, so she must be!
Then she has all kinds of toys for me. I dont' know which one to play with first! I looove the stick with the shiny strips on the end. That's my favorite.
Then I have sooo many beds I don't know which one to sleep in first!
And best of all is my tree house! Wow! What a cool thing that is! It's so much fun to climb all over, although mommy laughed at me when I didn't know how to get up to the "veranda" at first. She said I looked funny swinging from my front paws with my back legs dangling below. hrmph! It's not nice to laugh at your baby! However, it is great to lay out on the deck and look out at my new world.
Then there's the desk! It's in the corner and there's not one, but TWO windows to look out of! Wowee!! There's birds and squirrels and other cats to look at and just all kinds of stuff!!
But now there's something that's just a little bit scary for me. They opened the door to my room and put a screen door there. There are other cats RIGHT IN THE HOUSE!! I saw a big black one looking in at me and when they still had the door closed, I saw and orange and white paw reaching under the door at me, so I swatted it!
I really hope they'll be nice to me! Mommy says the black one is really sweet and wants to be my friend. She hasn't told me about the orange and white one as I really haven't seen her yet, except for her paw.
I'll let you know how it goes! Wish me luck!

The nice lady came by to see me and I was really happy. She kinda scared me when she tried to pick me up so I ran behind the pool filter. I noticed she brought this big, boxlike thing with her and my curiosity got the best of me. I went over and sniffed at it. I saw that my donut bed was in there, so I walked right in.
Then the door closed behind me! Oh no! What's this all about?? The lady talked softly to me, but I was still kinda nervous, so I curled up in my bed. Next think I know, I'm being lifted in the air and off we go out of the shed. I'm really nervous now, but I'm trying to be brave. It looks like were going into a car or something. The lady sits down next to me and off we go!
It wasn't too bad at first, but then I got scared. Really scared. I started panting and panting and drooling like crazy. I couldn't help it. I was so afraid. The lady stopped and held me on her lap and tried to comfort me and it helped a little bit, but I was still scared. She put me back in the box and pet me the rest of the way there. I thought the ride would never end!
We finally got there and we went into a nice room. The lady held me on her lap for while and then I saw someplace nice to curl up in. It was this round thing with an upstairs and downstairs. I ran in downstairs and curled up. She came over and stroked me a whole lot and it felt good. Then she left me alone for a bit. When she came back she had food. She put it right in with me and I ate it all up. Well, most of it. Then she pet me some more and left me alone for a while more.
It was kinda nice, but I was still scared. She kept coming and going and checking up on me. I really liked it when she laid down next to my bed and stroked me.
After a couple of hours she went away. I was really sad. The new lady who had come and gone with her into my room came in and sat with me. She gave me more food and I gobbled it up.
The next morning the new lady came and I had run into the cube in the closet. I had one of those in the last place I was and really liked it. She pet me and brought me more food. Yum. I was still really scared though. I heard her talking to someone and thought she said "I think she misses you." Before I knew it, my friend was there!
She stroked me and made me feel lots better. The other lady didn't pet me that much. She was worried about me. We played in the closet for a while and then the lady brought my litter box over. Boy, did I have to go! I was afraid to before, but now I couldn't resist! Both ladies were VERY happy!
Now I got lots of attention from the new lady! After my friend left, I played lots of fun games with the new lady. She was so happy and so was I!
I think I'm gonna like it here!

I was so happy to see the nice lady yesterday. I'm always happy to see her. I wish she would come more often and stay longer though. :-( But today was different. She had another lady with her. I was a little nervous, but I tried not to show it. They could tell though.
My friend came over and scratched me on the head and talked nice to me. The other lady kept smiling. They both sat on the floor - my friend right next to me in my bed and the other lady on the other side.
My friend pet me a lot and I really liked that. She also played with me with my favorite toy - the fuzzy strings on a stick. The other lady did too. They talked and talked and talked and then all of a sudden my friend squirted some yellow stuff in my mouth! I heard them say something about worms. Eee gads! Not moi! I also heard them say something about "just in case". Well, I never! hmmmp! But it actually tasted good, so I didn't mind. :-)
Then they switched places. The new lady came and sat by me and pet me a whole lot. She was really nice. I liked her. I hoped she would come back. Then I heard something about next week. They said something about a new bed and new toys and other cats and a screen. hmmmm... what's that all about??
The new lady had to leave, but she said "I can't wait until next week." I wonder what that's all about?? I guess I'll find out then!
