Arrival Story:
Baby was dropped off at the shelter on a Saturday, 2 days after Christmas. I went down to the shelter the following week with intentions of donating supplies. I was amazed to find the shelter had two rooms full of kennels with cats in them. Baby's previous owner died and her daughter took her to live with her. When the daughter went off to college she was passed along to another daughter whose family had two other cats, a dog and two toddlers. She just didn't fit in so, she ended up in the shelter.

Bio:
I felt so bad for this cat. After sitting with her petting her and talking softly to her, I couldn't reassure her that everything would be okay. I had to bring her home with me. I couldn't bear to leave her behind. She's still traumatized. I really think she thinks she's a dog and not a cat. She gets along with my Chihuahua but, seems to fear my cats. She stays in my guest bathroom all day curled up in the sink. I hope and pray every day that she'll adjust.

When anyone asks my Mum if she has kids she tells them, "yes and they all have fur." I live with four other cats and three Chihuahuas, but it wasn't always this way. My first Mummy died almost a year ago so, I went to live with one of my human sisters. She went off to college and couldn't keep me so, off I went to live with another human sister, her husband, 2 toddlers and 2 cats. That didn't work out so, 2 days after Christmas I landed at the shelter. I'm getting too old for this. I was scared and alone in a crate.

One day a woman came in and was looking around at all the animals at the shelter. I heard her say something about making a donation. I didn't know what that meant but, I liked the sound of her voice. One of the caregivers at the shelter came in and took me out of my crate. When she handed me to the woman to hold I heard her say, "I really shouldn't. I have seven more animals at home so, it's not a good idea for me to hold her." I was disappointed and confused, but she sat down anyway and began petting me while I sat in her lap. The caregiver told her I came in two days after Christmas, I was 6 years old and that my Mummy died so I got left here.

The caregiver told her Torties and black cats usually don't get adopted and she was afraid for me because of my color and my age. I saw the woman start to cry. Her tears made wet drops on my fur. She felt so badly for me . She said 3 of her "babies" were black and her black female was just my age. She continued to hold me. I looked up at her with my big green eyes and purred very loudly hoping she'd change her mind. Next thing I knew, she asked how much it would cost to adopt me. I vowed to be very good and purr really loudly hoping she'd decide to bring me home with her. They put me back in the crate and took the papers off the door before they went into the next room.

The next day was New Years..I'm not sure what that means, but two days went by and the woman came back with a kennel and took me to her house where the kitties and 3 dogs live. I'm really getting used to living here. Now when anyone asks if Mummy has kids she says "Yes, three black cats, one orange cat, a tortie black and orange cat and three chihuahuas... and my kids have fur.!!"
