Arrival Story:
Normally when I tell this story it gets very long, so I'll try to keep it short! I was living with my sister and had been begging for a cat only to be turned down because of the apartment's regulations that forbid pets. Then one day I came home from work, and there was a kitten on our couch! The poor little thing had been left out in the cold, on December 30. My sister had let her in, and we tried to find her family. But no one ever claimed her, which made us think she'd been left behind when someone moved. Of course I couldn't get rid of her, and so we started looking for a new apartment and in the end I moved out to live on my own. But I kept Ian with me, and she's still mine almost two years later.

Bio:
I am named after the famous Oscar nominated actor. My owner tells me that she was watching a show called Saturday Night Live, and the original Ian McKellen did a skit where he put on a cat nose and ears. She then declared she wanted an Ian McKellen-cat. I just happened to show up on her doorstep the next day.

We have a new home, and I'm having far too much fun to update. It's bigger, and there's this long hallway for me to run in. The humans laugh at me because I skid (the floor is slippery) because they don't realize I'm doing it on purpose. Though I need to get a little more control so I stop bumping into walls.

There's more places to hide, and more places to sleep. The carpet is even cushier and nicer. Plus, there are these two little porches they let me out on sometimes where I can sit and watch these brown furry things the humans called squirrels. I'm sure I could catch one if they let me out, but there's something in between me and them, so I'll just watch.

It's a much better place, I'm a lot happier here. I'm not happy that it's so much colder right now, why does it get colder every year? I don't like it.

Success!

I forgot to come back here and mention that I found my string. Some silly human had stuck it under a couch cushion. Meiran found it when she lost her wallet.

She didn't seem that happy about finding my string, but I think it was the better outcome. Besides, she got her wallet back when she went to the restaurant where she left it.

I've been perfecting my sleeping schedule, because the humans changed everything on me. It used to be the guy would get up and I would follow him around, then he'd get Meiran up and I'd follow her around. Then they'd leave and eventually I'd get to my first nap.

Now, he gets up and leaves and a long long time later Meiran gets up to go. So I just stay in bed with her, because she's pretty warm and they feed me at night now. Then when she gets up, I get to sleep in the warm spot she was in.

This is the life.

Requiem for a String

A lifetime ago, when we were living in the brown place where the big dogs were outside...the place with the wide windowsills that I could sit on...my human had some friends over and they put up silly bright streamers and gave her boxes and bags filled with stuff.

The guy that we live with now (he didn't live there then) took one of the bags and pulled a string out of it, and he gave it to me. It was the best present anybody has ever given me, much better than those collars my human keeps trying to make me wear.

It was the best string, it was long and white. It held up to repeatedly being bitten and clawed and dragged around. I made sure that I knew where my string was at all times, I always left it in the middle of the floor. When they made me stay at the other house and my human was gone, I still kept my string where I could find it. Every time we moved, I still had my string.

But somehow, a few weeks ago, my string went missing. My humans have been looking for it, but I don't know where I left it so I know they probably won't find it either until they're moving and find it under a couch or something.

I miss my string, it was a good string.

I hope you're having a good life, wherever you've gone.
