Arrival Story: Thanksgiving of 2002, a friend of mine told me of a cat who would visit the retirement home. Everybody loved him. But when the new owners took over they declared him a health hazard and had him taken to the animal shelter, he didn't have much time before they put him down. So, I told my husband we had to get him even though we weren't allowed pets in our apartment. I went to the Shelter to get him but it cost $90 to adopt. I couldn't afford that and I felt really bad but I knew my husband wouldn't allow me to spend that much for a cat. I really wanted a cat so I went to a pet store and bought a kitten for $10. When I got home, my friend that had told me about Tommy had called. She figured we couldn't afford the $90 and then told me "that is why the residents of the rest home all pitched in money" so I could adopt him. Even though I'd just gotten a kitten, there was no way I couldn't get him. So, Monday afternoon, I picked him up.

Bio: Tommy is a beautiful, gentle soul. Very loving and playful. He never does anything to hurt anybody. The very last time he snuck out of the house, I worried all day and searched and searched. At about 11pm that night, I was at the window when I heard his collar. I ran outside to get him. He was very spooked. So, I climbed up into the 3 foot high flower bed behind my apartment and got him in my arms. As I stepped down, I realized that I was too short and couldn't reach. My ankle shatter, Tommy went flying and I ended up in surgery. I was laid up for months recuperating from my injuries and Tommy was by my side constantly. I don't know if the fall scared him or that fact that I was walking funny but he's never tried to get outside since then. Strange how they learn.
