Arrival Story:
At 42 years old & facing an imminent mastectomy,I had never had a cat. While sitting in my garden late at night,I heard a plaintive"meow".When I called,"here, kitty, kitty",I was immediately rewarded with a lap full o' cat and lots of headbutts.I tried but failed to find her owner,so she moved in.Remember, dogs have masters: cats have STAFF!!! I happily became a humble staff member.

After my surgery, she spent all her time in my bed comforting me.She made sure to avoid my extensive incision areas when she "made biscuits".How she sensed it,I'll never know. We've been together for 15 years now.

The Philosophy of Peaches

Peaches has crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Yesterday, my dear Peaches crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We found her in the kitchen as though she were just asleep in the sun. She came to me in 1994 as a stray. I'd never had a cat before, but she knew I would need her love soon. I found out I had cancer just a few months after she adopted me. I don't know what I will do without her.

My Tail of Devotion for Peaches

Thirteen years ago, I was sitting on my deck, alone in the dark. I was trying not to think of the mastectomy I was facing the following week. Of course, I couldn't erase it from my mind.

Then, I heard a pitiful meow. I gave the usual "here, kitty, kitty" and was surprised to wind up with a lap full o' cat. She was obviously homeless, hungry and scared. I was 42 & had never had a cat, but we both were struck by Karma that night. I had a home and food, but I was scared, too!

I took her in. I think she'd just become accustomed to me when I had to stay in the hospital for 10 days. When I came home, I was pretty fragile. Due to the type of surgery I had, I wound up with several large incisions, one of which was all the way across my tummy.

"Kitty, kitty" had become "Peaches" by now and she made it her occupation to stay with me in bed all day. She never left my side during my long recovery. She'd snuggle up next to me when I napped, happily purring. She'd kitty-kiss my hand when I found the strength to pet her. She'd climb up on me and make biscuits all the while avoiding my tender spots. It was as if she knew where they were. She did her best to comfort me with gentle headbutts and snuggles.

I think we actually "rescued" each other. We surely formed a bond over those long weeks. I could never repay her for the love and affection she gave me.

Thankfully, I've been cancer free since then. Peaches is still with me. Every time I look at her, I'm reminded how lucky I was to have found a friend at the time I needed one most.

This is a special Tail of Devotion

My hangover

Daddy gave me a new toy yesterday. It's a neon green fuzzy stuffed mousie like a little beany baby. But instead of beans,it's full of something Daddy calls "catnip". Oh man, that stuff went straight to my head! I sniffed and licked it and that's when the fun started! I picked it up in my mouth, shook my head and went a little wacky! I tossed it around, rolled on it,ambushed it and then started running around the house. Daddy said the Kitty Winternationals were now in session. Meeeeowwwwrrrrrrr! What a buzz! Then, all of a sudden,I got really hungry and went straight to my dish. Mama was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes. She said I had the munchies.

This morning I was reeeeeeaaally tired,so I slept in. Do you suppose there's a twelve-step program for catnip ?
