Scared of other people but not other animals

Through the years we've seen that Sunny is really scared of people he doesn't know. At first I thought it was just that he was skittish around children and babies, but now I know better. Although we got him from a Rescue shelter when he was 6 weeks old, I tend to think that someone at sometime hurt him badly enough that he remembers and fears unknown people because of it. I had hoped he'd get over it as he got older but that doesn't seem to be happening.

On the other hand, he's no coward when it comes to other animals! He's King of the neighborhood although he's an indoor cat. Sometimes he "escapes" and he'll run around making sure every animal, cat or dog, in the area, knows this is HIS neighborhood LOL. He has friends too. Our neighbors cat, Spike, is one and Spike is "allowed" in our yard and comes to visit with Sunny. Weird since they're both males! Spike has even come into the house lol There's another cat he likes too, but any others get chased away. He doesn't even have to do much chasing anymore lol, he just gives them a look and they take for the hills! Same with dogs LOL So he's definitely not a wimp. I've even seen animals come up in our yard and Sunny goes out on the porch and they'll run from him even though he's not outside LOL
