Arrival Story:
We were in the Smokey Mountains (Gatlinburg, TN) staying at a resort. One day, coming back from dinner, there was this little kitten that looked to be about 3 months old playing out in the parking lot. It had a RAT trapped and was chasing it to and fro. The next morning this little kitten was on our doorstep, so I opened the door and in he came. I gave him some tuna and water and let him leave when he was ready. Next morning, he was there again. He never left. :-) So, with the locale and his color, Smokey just seemed to be the most appropriate name. He apparently agrees because you call his name and he comes running - every time! My dog doesn't even listen THAT WELL!

Bio:
It turns out Smokey was afraid of dogs. Poor baby hid for almost 3 days when we got home with him because he was afraid of our dog, Sydney. And as big as Sydney is, who wouldn't be when she's chasing after you!?!?! Three months later they are "almost" best buds. Today, for the first time, Smokey let Sydney lick his face and ears. It didn't last long, but that's a long way from the hissing, spitting and spatting he used to do whenever Sydney got near him! By the way - did you notice his little white heart? My boyfriend says he looks like a witch's cat. I say maybe so, but at least he's the good kind of witch's cat because you can see he has a big heart. :-) Just remembered he's sometimes called "Mr. Stern-Face". Why, you ask? He doesn't know how to smile or relax his face. Always looks so serious, poor thing. He can be rubbing, purring, kneading, getting pets galore but still his face looks just like in the photos - no expressions. Oh well, he can't help it and I can hear the purrrrrrrrrr.
