Somewhere over the rainbow

Today Annie has gone to be with Lorili over the rainbow bridge. Truman has been sitting with her the last couple of days that She has been ill, and today I just knew it was time.

I took her to the vet who said that from looking at her blood work that she had cancer most likely bone marrow cancer. There was nothing more to do than to say good bye.
Truman accompanied her to the vet for support, he rubbed his head against her and cuddled with her for a while before I put him back in his kennel.
Annie was given a sedative. I held her in my arms as it took effect. She looked up at me and the look in her eyes said "I'm ready to go now". After the sedative kicked in she was given the final injection, it was quick and painless and I knew it was the right thing to do. I know that she is somewhere over the rainbow now and looking down on her earthly family. It has been so wonderful having her in my life. I will never forget all the beautiful moments spent with her.
My beloved *Annie *

Today is Annie's 3rd birthday. I don't think I will make her a kitty cake because she still doesn't want to eat and has to be syringe fed. She is looking a little better today but is still in critical condition. I am going to try and make today as fun, happy and memorable as I can for Annie.
Ill be taking lots of pictures and post them later today.
Happy Happy Birthday to by little Annie Bananie!!!!

Update 2/21/09 Annie is hanging in there

Annie is still hanging in there, but I'm very worried about her. Last night and today she has been fighting me less when I give her her medication, and just seems tired. She has that sick look in her eyes, but there has been a little bit of hope.
She peed quite a bit of normal yellow urine with no blood what so ever. And is not staining to urinate any more, I think that has made her much more comfortable.
I gave Annie 50cc of sub Q fluids last night and 100cc earlier tonight. She seemed to have perked up a little after having fluids yesterday and hopefully she will want to eat tonight otherwise I'm going to have to syringe feed her some food tonight.
She is drinking a lot of water which is one of the effects of the prednisone. She is supposed to have increased appetite as well but is not really wanting to eat.
Annie and I just have to take it moment to moment, day to day and hope for the best.

Annie is my little sunshine, my chipper chickadee and has always been there for me. Right now I'm just trying to be there for her and keep her as happy and comfortable as I can.

2/20/09 Annie's bloodwork results

The results for Annie's complete blood work came back today. Things don't look so good for my little one. Her total protein levels are very high as well as Globulin, BUN, Creatinine, Phosphorous, Amylase and White Blood cell count.
In addition to all that she has a low Red blood cell count (anemia), low HGB (The hemoglobin is the amount of oxygen carrying protein contained within the red blood cells),
HCT (The hematocrit is the percentage of the blood volume occupied by red blood cells), MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume) and low MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin, the amount of hemoglobin in the red blood cells).
She also has very high levels of Neutrophils, Monocytes, Eosinophils and Platelets. Her T4 came back very low but that is the lest of her problems. Just about the only good news was her FIV/FeLV test was Negative.

All this means that in the best case scenario Annie has a severe Kidney infection, which she could recover from although she would probably be left with kidney damage. The other possibilities carry much grimmer prospects.
Dr. Brooks prescribed Annie, Clavamox and Prednisone.

Right now I can only pet, cuddle, and give her the medication and hope that it works. She is fighting for her life right now, its a wonder that she is still walking around let alone eating and drinking.
Annie is such a sweet little girl who has already lived through so much in her little life. I just know that she has the strength to fight this if there is any chance of winning, which I really hope there is.

2/19/09 Annie went to the vet today, It doesn't look to- good

Annie went to the vet early this morning. She was straining to urinate last night and when she finally did there was a little blood in it. When Dr. Brooks got a urine sample it was the color of rust, not a good sign. The urine analysis showed bacteria which should never be present in a sterile urine stick and that there is trouble with her kidneys. Dr. Brooks also drew some blood but I won't know the results of the blood work for a few days. Annie got some fluids and an antibiotic injection. She either has kidney damage, which could be treated and recover to live 3-5 more years, or she is in renal failure which means that her kidneys are shutting down and all that could be done for her is fluids (the kitty equivalent of dialysis) , change her diet to reduce stain on her kidneys and just try and make her comfortable for the rest of her life. I'm just praying that it is not renal failure so she can have more time with me and her kitty friends on earth. Please send your positive vibes Annie's way, she needs all the help she can get.
