Arrival Story: My ex-boyfriend and I used to walk in to Park Slope and on our way, we would pass a car repair lot on Flatbush Avenue. One day in the winter of 2004, we passed by and Mr. Friend ran past the gate and said hello to us. We inquired about him, and found out that he and another kitty were the resident car repair lot kitties. For a few months, whenever we would pass by we would see Mr. Friend and his little grey kitty friend. Sometimes he would be not be there, but most times he was there. I eventually started bringing cans of food along with me so I could feed him when we passed by. One day, in June, I noticed that the car repair lot had been shut down, but the kitties were still there. At that time, Orange Julius had just been diagnosed with cancer, so I was hesitant to rescue two cats with no housing options available. At this point, I began to go by the lot every day to feed the kitties. Then one day, I made the decision to take both kitties and find homes for them on Petfinder. As well some local rescue groups had agreed to help fund some of my vetting expenses. I found a Veterinarian in Manhattan who offered a monthly spay/neuter day on a Saturday, which was perfect. I planned to bring the kitties to my home a few days before. Then one day, I noticed the little grey kitty had gone missing! My hope was that someone had taken him to give him a loving home, but I realized that I had to take Mr. Friend now, or never. I had no carrier with me, but very conveniently, there was a UHaul store across the street, so I bought a box and cut some air holes. Then a very friendly guy rode by on his bike and asked me if I needed help. Mr Friend was a bit nervous so he helped me get Mr. Friend in the box, tape it up, and then he walked back to my apartment with me to be sure we had no problems on the way. Mr. Friend screamed and cried and hissed the whole way!! Now he is the happiest kitty, living in the lap of luxury kittydom, with me!!!
