Arrival Story:
I foster kitties with special medical needs for our local shelter, and Sabrina came to me as a foster, but it seems that she has now become a "forever foster". I had hoped she would find a suitable home with no other pets, but it seems that there is not much demand for older, one-eyed cats who aren't fond of other animals. So barring a miracle adoption, it seems she is here to stay.

Bio:
Sabrina came to our local shelter with a severely swollen and blood-filled left eye. She came home as a foster cat with her left eye sutured shut for two weeks, requiring crate rest. When the sutures were removed, she needed twice-a-day antibiotics and eye ointment for two weeks; although no longer crated, her activity needed to be limited, with no jumping or climbing. After another three weeks, the swelling was down and most of the blood in the eye had reabsorbed, but the increased pressure in the eye had caused permanent damage, and she is now blind in her left eye. She had been declawed in the past by a previous owner, so she is very defensive around other animals, probably due to the fact that her vision is limited, and that her claws are missing as her first line of defense. She is very affectionate and loving with people, and is very gradually becoming accustomed to sharing a house with other pets, but she would definitely prefer to be an only pet. At present, she tolerates the presence of other cats in the room, as long as they don't actually attempt to approach or play with her. She is doing a little better with dogs, and will tolerate a sniff here and there. I hope as time passes, she will recognize that other animals do not present a threat to her safety and be more accepting of them. She has been in my home for over a year now, and progress is being made, although slowly. Since she did not find an adoptive home, she will now remain here with me in my "handi-cat accessible" home.
