Who Makes Caster & Pollux Cat Food, and Where Is It Produced?

The Castor & Pollux, Natural Petworks company, makes Caster & Pollux Organix Cat Food. Shelley Gunton and Brian Connolly started this company to prepare better food for their pet, Joey, a dog they rescued from the Humane Society. Castor was the name of another pet dog, and Pollux was a cat. More than 18 years have passed since then, and the company continues to grow and add new employees. The company headquarters is in Clackamas, Oregon, but you can find it in most grocery stores or online.

Which Types of Cats Castor & Pollux Best Suited For?

Since most of Castor & Pollux’s ingredients are organic, this food is well-suited for cats of all ages. There are no fillers like corn or soy that can cause your cat to become obese, increasing its risk of contracting a fatal health problem like cardiovascular disease or diabetes. There are no chemical preservatives or dyes, which can often cause allergic reactions and itchy skin, so it’s perfect for sensitive cats.

Which Types of Cats Might Do Better With a Different Brand?

The only cats better off using a different brand are those that won’t eat it. Cats are notoriously picky eaters and don’t like change. If your cat likes its current food, it can be hard to convince them to switch, especially if they are getting older. Most experts recommend replacing 10% of the food with the new type the first week and increasing the percentage every week until your cat adjusts. We’ve found this effective for most cats, but there will always be a few holdouts.

If your cat has a health problem, your vet may prescribe a specific food they need. We recommend following the doctor’s orders and returning to Castor and Pollux when the condition subsides.

Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good & Bad)

Castor & Pollux Organix Canned Wet Cat Food (Case of 24)

    Organic Ingredients

As you may have guessed from the name, Castor & Pollux Organix brand cat and dog food contains primarily organic ingredients. A quick list of the ingredients will show organic chicken, organic sweet potatoes, organic chickpeas, and several more. Organic ingredients have fewer pesticides and frequently provide a higher nutritional value because synthetic fertilizers are not used. They don’t add growth hormones or antibiotics to the meat so that they won’t get transferred to your cat.

    Dehydrated Fruits & Vegetables

The fruits and vegetables within Castor & Pollux Organix cat food are dehydrated to help retain the nutrients. Other brands will cook the ingredients as they process the food, which can strip them of their nutritional value. It can also make the food bland, which can cause your cat to be more resistant to eating it.

The dehydrated fruits and vegetables in Organix food provide your pet with essential vitamins and minerals for fast development and a strong immune system.

    No Harmful Ingredients

Castor & Pollux Organix brand cat food contains no corn or soy ingredients. Corn and soy are at the top of the list of genetically modified foods and provide no benefits to your carnivorous cat. Your cat might enjoy eating corn, but it will quickly cause your pet to gain weight, which is a serious concern for all pets in America right now. Experts estimate that 60% of cats are overweight, so anything you can do to prevent your cat from eating empty calories will be good.

There are also no harmful chemical preservatives or artificial dyes. These ingredients might make the food stay fresh longer and look more appealing, but some chemicals like BHA can harm your cat’s health. Several food dyes can also cause health problems and allergic reactions in some cats, and they can’t see color as we do, so there is no reason to include this ingredient.

    1. Castor & Pollux Organix Grain-Free Dry Organic Chicken & Sweet Potato Recipe

Castor & Pollux Organix Organic Dry Dry Cat Food

Castor & Pollux Organix Grain-Free Organic Chicken & Sweet Potato Recipe Dry Cat Food is our favorite brand from this company. It’s a dry cat food that they cook in an organically certified kitchen using all-natural organic ingredients. It has organic chicken listed as its first ingredient, and several other chicken ingredients are listed as well. It provides your cat with the essential nutrient, taurine and contains no artificial colors or harmful preservatives.

The only thing we didn’t like about this recipe is that it’s expensive, and a few of our cats wouldn’t eat it, no matter how hard we tried.

    2. Castor & Pollux Organix Grain Free Organic Chicken & Chicken Liver Recipe Castor & Pollux Organix Canned Wet Cat Food

Castor & Pollux Organix Grain Free Organic Chicken & Chicken Liver Recipe All Life Stages Canned Cat Food is our favorite wet variety of this food. It contains organic chicken as the main ingredient and provides your cat with omega fats through flaxseed oil. Omega fats help with many biological functions and help reduce swelling, ease arthritis pain, and help your cat maintain a healthy and shiny coat. There are no harmful chemical ingredients or artificial dyes, and it comes in pate form, our cat’s favorite.

While it was easier to get our most stubborn cats to eat this wet cat food than the dry, we found that the natural ingredients can lead to some inconsistency between cans. Some have a darker color than others, and our cats wouldn’t eat it. It’s a little more expensive than many less healthy brands, even when buying in bulk.

    Conclusion

We highly recommend serving any of the varieties of Castor & Pollux Organix to your pet. Each will provide your pet with high-quality ingredients and a well-balanced meal. Due to all of the ingredients being 100% organic, you can expect some inconsistencies from one batch to the next, and for some reason, cats seem to prefer food that isn’t good for them, so it can be challenging to get them started on it, but patience and persistence can lead you and your cat to a healthier diet and an increased lifespan.
