Arrival Story:
Oscar was a shelter cat; or rather kitten. It's not clear if he is pure-bred, but came from a litter of 4 others. He was the cutest but most timid of the bunch but had an innate curiosity and ear tufts that were as large as his head. He came to us to replace Top-Cat, a 15-year-old shorthair, and playmate of George, a beloved Siberian who passed from CRF in 2006. Oscar was taken too early from the mother cat (who was adopted herself) and struggled as a youngster to find his "cat legs." His challenge is that he's very clever and figures things out faster than the other cats in the house. And of course males can always be handfuls - especially larger ones.

Bio:
Today, Oscar is the Alpha cat of the household. He is extremely shy among strangers and exhibits classic depression/anxiety sumptoms - but is a born showman when he's confident. To all folks with cats suffering from anxiety (yes, cats do have that trait, just like humans, apparently), we have had great success with Felaway, a pheromone replacement therapy that looks just like a Glade plug-in. It's considered a prescription treatment, but has the added advantage of working on the whole household (kindof like aromatherapy for cats). Prior to treatment, he had lost 2 lbs, was withdrawn, and shedding profusely, with no underlying medical condition despite a barrage of tests. We began treatment in 11/08 and are still amazed with the results.
