Gotcha Day

May 2nd 2012 8:11 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 4 people already have ]

Oh has Mom been a bad secretary! We haven’t been around for a kazillion years. Actually, Mom says she has two reasons: The show she’s performing in is coming up in less than three weeks. And: You know what she’s been busy with???? Shooting pictures of doggies!

Some of the furs here have been encouraging Mom to take purrfessional pictures. Mom decided to try to make a go of it. Can you imagine: fur-fotography! She’s been trying to put together a fur-folio and look into the kazillion and one things she needs to know before she actually gets started. That includes pictures of doggies too, you know, ‘cept we don’t live with any doggies. The quickest way for Mom to get those pictures is to go out to places like Central Park in Manhattan and ask people if she can take pictures of their furs, so that’s what she’s been doing. Then, when she’s not practicing for her show, she’s sitting up till the wee hours of the morning doing photo-editing.

(Some of her friends on Facebook have seen a few of the doggy pictures already.)

Right now, she’s at the stage at which she’s not charging those people for the photographs—she’s just sending the shots to them over the e-mail. (She says people are really weird. We don’t hear back from them, so she started sending the e-mails ‘request delivery receipt’. We still don’t get a delivery receipt. I guess they’re afraid Mom is going to want money from them.)

Anyway, it’s our Gotcha Day; mine and Keshy's. At least Mom was home with us today. Wow…that was such a long time ago. It was a cold, rainy day like today when we went home with Mom.

When that day began, it seemed that it would be like any other day. I was in the kennel with my fur Mommy and all my fursibs and Keshy and her fursibs (my Mommy and Keshy’s Mommy are different kitties—we had the same furdaddy, Spanky. My Mommy’s name was Wild Cat, Keshy’s Mommy was LuAnn. My Mommy was taking care of all of us.) We got our food and we were all eating and playing in the same cage. Then, all of a sudden this human lady and her daddy came in to see us. Breeder lady, Berdie (see Tabbies, not all bad things come from Berdies), brought Mom in to see us.

We all tried to hide behind Mommy, but the lady picked me and Keshy, and Berdie put us in her arms. That was okay, but we really wanted to see the rest of Berdie’s house, so one of us—I think it was me, tried climbing Mom and going over the top of her shoulder and down her back. They had to ‘rescue’ Mom before she became embarrassed when she lost me in the house. Giggles.

I don’t think we got time to say goodbye to Mommy. Berdie took us into another room and we both got some ouchie needles while Mom played with Breeder lady’s Chihuahua puppies. Then we went into a really big box with a blankie in it. It had a fence so we couldn’t get out. The box was Misha’s Kennel Cab. Then they took the box with us in it to Grandpaw’s car and we started to go for a ride. After a while we stopped and Mom and Grandmaw and Grandpaw wanted to get something to eat. Since it was warmer in the place than leaving us in the car, they took the box with them and Mom put it on the seat next to her. All these people kept stopping by our table and cooing over us in the box. Gee, we must have been awfully cute!

Anyway, I think one of us already told you our Gotcha story about when we got home so I won’t continue.

Well, that was such a long time ago. There are fourteen years in between and, even though I complain (a lot), I still love my Mom and Mom loves me. We’re happy we chose each other.

Thank you all for the lovely gifts and for the gifts you left for us for Easter. It’s going to take a bit of time before we thank effurybody.

We’re still around and we’re thinking of effurybody, it’s just gonna’ take some time until we can really play again. I had a nice gotcha day. I only wish Keshy was still around to celebrate it with me.

I Went to See V-Lady on Saturday

March 22nd 2012 10:58 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 9 people already have ]

The last time I saw V-Lady, Mom was concerned ‘cause I was giving her such a hard time with my eating. (I didn’t want the kibble anymore and I wasn’t finishing my canned food either.) V-Lady thought she found a heart murmur so I had to go back on Saturday ‘cause she wanted the sonographer lady to do a sonogram and echocardiogram.

Mom rushed around really early that morning. Colette made herself small so Mom wouldn’t find her. Colette already knows it’s not a good sign when Mom does that. It usually means she’s going to see Dr. L. Well, that didn’t concern me.

I walked into the bathroom to complain to Mom about the food service. It stunk! I mean it really stunk between Friday night and Saturday morning. There was no food after ten o’clock and the water fountain was dry. I mean really dry! It wasn’t plugged in and there wasn’t a drop of water! Colette was complaining too.

You know what Mom did? She scooped me up and put me in the carry bag! Locked up for voicing my opinion? Was this going to be like the time I got put in the doggy cage? Yeow!

Anyway, it was still chilly in the morning so we took a taxi. I complained all the way there and the taxi driver laughed. He laughed! He told us he has his own kitties. He’s had them for years.

The sonographer lady was really nice but she put all this stuff on me. At least it was over really quickly. Mom didn’t even get a chance to come into the room with me.

When the sonographer lady brought me back to Mom she told Mom what a sweet girl I am (and how it showed how well-cared for I am). You could have fooled me! Humans are so dumb. Didn’t the sonographer lady see I was starving? I kept telling her I would appreciate it if she could slip me some kibble since obviously someone had messed up big time. (I didn’t name names.) She laughed.

Then we had to wait forever until V-Lady came and talked to Mom. But we have good news! There’s nothing new going on with my intestines and I don’t have a heart murmur. Yay!

I was bored with the food. I kept telling them—why didn’t they want to listen?

Mom got me some new kibble and it really tastes good. And she got some new canned prescription food that she gave me to try even before I saw V-Lady. The first couple of times it tasted good so I ate it. Then I got tired of it. V-lady says I’m not so hungry anymore because my kidneys haven’t been so good. (At least the blood-work they did a week ago showed they haven’t gotten any worse since August.) Mom asked V-Lady if I could take the same pill that makes Colette so hungry (Mirtazapine). V-lady thought it was a good idea.

I complained all the way home on the bus too. And some nasty man wanted Mom to take my carrier off the seat I was on. I heard Mom say to him that I was inside; it wasn’t just a bag. She asked him if he would say the same thing if I was a small child. He looked really mad but he didn’t say anything else.

What would your Mom’s have done? There’s really not enough room between the seats to hold the bag in her lap. The times Mom has gotten up and left the carrier on the seat people get upset about that too. They think she’s standing there and putting her bag on a seat. They’re really happy, though, when she gets up and puts the bag on her shoulder. She says she’s not happy about that. Colette and I are too heavy to stand for that long with us on her shoulder and people keep banging into us ‘cause they think it’s just a bag.

When we got home I walked out of the bag cool as a cucumber and I gave Mom a dressing down. What was she thinking? I hadn’t eaten for all that time and now it was after lunch time. I should have already had three meals in the time she hadn’t fed me. I got my food.

I also got a really yucky pill to take. An hour later I got really hungry. Colette got the same pill and she got really hungry too.

Mom fed us each only about 4 bowls of food before she left the house. How dare she? She left the house for the whole evening and she didn’t feed us. The food service stinks!

Happy Birthday to Me and Thank You!

It’s my birthday! I just turned 14 years old. Mom had to take Colette for her appointment with Dr. L., so it was kind of a quiet day. But she didn’t forget me. When she gave me my noms this morning, she also gave me some yummy treats and sang Happy Birthday to me. We did it behind the closed bedroom door. :( Colette couldn’t join because she would have wanted birthday treats too and Mom can’t give them to her. The treats were fun; I kept looking around for more and Mom kept them coming. It isn’t often I get treats ‘cause of Colette. Mom wanted to play with me with my snowflake toy but at that moment I wasn’t interested. I played with it later, by myself.

Since it would have been Keshy’s Birthday too, Mom spent some time with her photograph and stuff and looked very sad. I think I made up for Keshy’s not being there by acting cute. (How can I not act cute? I’m just my ‘dorable little self!)

Happy Birthday to Me!

Mom!!! We missed my DDP! And, and… my friends gave me all kinds of purresents and what were you doing? You were on the phone having a fight with Auntie Arlene. Then you were trying to burn a copy of the disk she says she never got from your coach. Did it work? No.

You say it might be your last fight with her? Why??? I always demand that I get things from you and I never say thank you and I always say I haven’t been fed. And I always use a tone of voice on you. But I don’t pitch a temper tantrum if I don’t get everything I want, when I want it, and I always purr for you too, right? And Auntie Arlene doesn’t purr for you? What do you mean she purrs for the wrong reasons?

Okay, I’ll drop the subject.

You know what else has been going on here? Colette has been letting me share her food with her. Mom says it looks like two little heads over one bowl. And the toaster has been sending us toast showers. Mom made some toast yesterday and the toaster didn’t want to wait for her to come get it. Whoa… toast missile! It landed on the floor and I was sniffing at it when Mom came back into the kitchen—that was the biggest kibble I’ve ever seen! It didn’t smell like kibble, though, and I hadn’t eaten for a whole hour! Boy was I hungry!

Thank you diary gal for the DDP and thanks:

Pennie, Minnie and Bliss for the Big Hugs Kitty
Family of Sleeper, Samhain and Fearless for the pretty Diamond
Tate for the Lips --- mwah!
Alley Cat Angel, Calie, and Boo Boo for the Lips– smoochies!
Elsa for the Heart
Pipo and Minko for the heartfelt Kitty Hug (what a pretty kitty!)

Purrs….

Valentine’s Day Pics

Wow, it’s been a long time since I got to write anything. Not that Mom forgot about me, it’s just that she’s been busy with poor Colette.

Funny, our carry bag always seems to be out, and then, once a week, when I’m not sleeping there, Colette and the bag disappear for a few hours. They both come back in the early afternoon smelling like the nasty clinic I went to when I hurt my back.

Anyway, towards the end of last week, Mom began to take Valentines pictures of me. She didn’t do them for Colette until today, ‘cause Colette didn’t feel good. Colette felt so bad she couldn’t eat. Now Colette is getting extra pills and today she was hungry all day long. She was driving Mom so nuts that Mom phoned Dr. L. She thought maybe she shouldn’t have given Colette that last pill. You know what Dr. L. said? “So feed her!” That means I got extra noms too. Yay!

Mom finally chose which pictures to post. She says she wishes she could have gotten one more picture that was even better than the ones we’re posting: the look on my face when Colette sat all the way up on the blankie last night. Mom was so pinned under the covers she couldn’t move. And, I couldn’t get under the covers with Mom. And, you know, Mr. Moon was so bright Mom could have almost taken a picture of what that looked like. Colette and I finally fell asleep with our faces next to Mom’s.

But you know what else? You know what Mom just said to me? (I think Colette really made her completely nuts today, and I helped.) She said: “If I let you sit in my lap will you leave me alone?”
Uh, ohh… time to go. I’m outta here.

Yeow!

Squeaky Toys and Nighty-Night Games

December 11th 2011 11:53 pm

First squeaky toys:
Dog lady told Mom that Misty heard the sound of my squeaky toy on the other side of our door the yesterday. Misty came running over to the door ‘cause she wanted to play with the squeaky toy too. That’s funny. I was running around playing with my toys when Misty came to our door, but I don’t have a squeaky toy….

Nighty-Night Games:
My new ritual: Nighty-night Mom. It gets cold in our bedroom at night. Mom turns off the light and climbs under the cover and I jump on the bed and sit on the pillow. Mom starts to go to sleep and I pat her on the nose. She groans and lifts the blanket and asks me if I want to come under. I don’t know. She pats the space next to her and I still don’t know. Then I hear her say, ‘okay, so don’t, you’ll be cold.’ I don’t want to be cold, but she just lowered the blanket and how am I supposed to go under? I pat her on the nose again. She groans and lifts the blanket. It’s beginning to look safe under there, but I’m still not sure, so I don’t go. She starts going to sleep and I realize I’m cold. I pat her nose—hey, let me in. I go under and I settle in. I start getting too warm just as she starts drifting off, so I elbow her in her side and hear her groan again. I need help getting out. The last time she didn’t lift the cover I got tangled up in the sheet. So she lifts the cover and I move on top and settle down where I know the temperature is just right—on her butt. We both go off to sleep.

Sometimes that’s good and sometimes it’s not so good. The nights when it’s not so good I have to move every time she turns over—she’s doing that too much lately. It was better when she complained about a backache in the morning.

Yeow!

Fly Free, Sweet Princess.

November 30th 2011 10:50 pm

We’re furry sad tonight. We lost one of our furriends, Princess. Princess was one of doggy lady’s two Pomeranian girls. She was the doggy I never smacked.

She died at home tonight. She had stopped eating about 72 hours ago and she couldn’t keep water down anymore either. We don’t know what caused it. Doggy lady is an older lady who doesn’t have much money—she was hoping that whatever it was that was bothering Princess would clear up. She was going to take her to the vet tomorrow.

Mom got to say goodbye late this afternoon and two hours later, doggy lady rang our bell to let us know that Princess went to the bridge. Mom spent the better part of this evening comforting doggy lady.

Princess was a very sweet girl. She was shy and reserved but once she got to know you… Mom remembers all too well the day Keshy died. Princess spent the better part of the evening in Mom’s lap giving her kisses and making her feel better.

Mom always used to love the way Princess would stand back and look at her with her big, doggy eyes. Her eyes always said, “love me, I’m here too; it’s not only Misty who wants to play.” Misty would be all over Mom and, at the same time, wouldn’t let Mom catch her to pet her—that’s always been Misty’s game. So Mom would love on Princess big time and, sooner or later, Misty would calm down and go over to Mom to be loved too. And Mom would hug and kiss both doggies. She adored both doggies and they adored her back.

What can we say? It’s all too soon that Princess had to make her journey to the bridge—she was only 8 years old. We already miss her. When Mom came back in the house tonight it was past our supper time and we hadn’t eaten. We didn’t fuss like we usually do either.

Fly free sweet girl. We love you.

Sad purrs…

Super Creepy

When Mom got home tonight I was slinking around and she didn’t know what got into me. Then she heard IT. It was the beep monster! He visited our house tonight. Every few minutes he would scream BEEEEP!

IT was soooo scary, I didn’t even want to eat. Mom took our ladder into the hallway and she started messing with something on the wall. Then she took these little things out of the thing on the wall—I was so afraid for her. What if the beep monster wanted to eat her? She put these other little things back in the beep monster and it screamed “BEEEEP”!

She took the other little things out again and muttered something about low batteries and we would have to live without the carbon-monoxide detector tonight. If it means not having the beep monster come back to our house, I’m all for it. You don’t know how long it took Mom to convince me that it was safe to eat. If I was hungry, doesn’t it mean it was the beep monster’s supper time too? What if he eats little kitties?

Speaking of something else really creepy, Mom wasn’t happy about learning about something that can kill you that doesn’t make any noise at all: something about a ‘silent pull’. She said it has to do with a popular pet food company silently pulling noms from the shelf because they think the food is bad, and then not telling anybody.

She says that just happened, but this time somebody let people know ‘cause one of the big stores posted the information on-line ‘by mistake’. Geeze—that was a big store! What if some of the little stores also got that food? And what about people who already bought the food before it was ‘pulled’?

Here’s the link to the story: Pet Food Pull

Tote that Barge and Stuff

I never met a string I didn’t like, or for that matter a pom-pom ballie either. A couple of winters ago, Mom thought she was going nuts. MOL! She swears that she doesn’t walk around the apartment with only one boot on so she can leave it in another room. Her Ugg boot had both my favorite things on it. Giggles.

I did meet a string today, though, that was a bit too much for me. The window shade in the bedroom ripped (it got too old and brittle) and Mom got some new venetian blinds. Hanging them up is bit much for Mom. She was up on the ladder forever yesterday and today trying to screw the little plastic box mounts onto the window frame. Our building is really old, so it’s not easy to do that. Yesterday, she stood there staring at the ‘structions like a deer in the headlights. (It didn’t help that the pictures were very badly drawn, and the box came with two center support mounts she couldn’t use, all sorts of little plastic pieces, and a kazillion more screws than she could figure out what to do with. She swore she would either never get it hung, or, if she did, that it would fall and kill one of us.) But she got the first blind hung just fine. Today she started on blind number two. She got all cocky ‘cause she thought she knew how to do it now. Then, while she was up on the ladder she realized that there was no place on the window to hang the boxes and have them sit flush against the window frame—and the window frames are crooked, so there was no way to accurately measure where the boxes should go. While Mom was worrying about that, she forgot to look which way the boxes should go up. She finally got the boxes screwed on to the window frames and they were still sitting all cock-eyed, but she was counting on the blind to tilt them the right way.

Okay, she put up the blind. When she tried to put the plastic cover on each of the boxes so the blind can’t fall out, there was no way for the cover to go on. Giggles. She put the boxes up the wrong way and had to start all over again! In the meantime since the blind fell down halfway open and she didn’t find a way to pull it tight again, she left it on the floor. While Mom was up on the ladder, I came by and I saw it—oh my, what a lovely string! Hey, I’m pretty strong but I was having an awfully hard time walking off with it! (I got caught—Mom heard it dragging across the floor.) MOL!

The third blind goes up tomorrow. Maybe I can get Colette to help me.
