Arrival Story:
White Meat was found by Animal Control seizuring on a lawn in the rain. The owner turned out to be a 78 year old mostly bed-ridden woman. No one knows what happened to Meat during the two weeks he had been missing, but when the seizures were stopped it was clear that he had become a "special needs" kitty. He was extremely "cerebellar" (no balance) and couldn't walk. But he was so handsome and loved to eat! The owner couldn't take care of a cat with such needs so I took him over. Later I found he was deaf and very nearsighted. Over time he regained his ability to walk and even to jump on the bed. But everyone still laughs at his drunken walk and "Stevie Wonder" head movements.
Bio:
White Meat passed away recently. We really miss him. For an old neurologic cat he sure accomplished a lot. In his last years he was the star of a 1/2 hour public TV show called "White Meat does Berkeley" in which he visited several well known Berkeley sites such as UC Berkeley and the Rose Garden. His favorite Berkeley site was of course KFC. He was also in the movie "Trekkies II" as a Borg cat, in the section filmed in Sacramento about Star Trek punk bands. Since he was deaf, he didn't mind going to such events.
