Arrival Story:
I didn't find Roxy... she found me. She had a litter of six beautiful little kittens in the parking lot of the t.v station where I work. For whatever reason, Roxy decided I was okay and allowed me to pet her and visit her kittens. We bonded and I began feeding her so she could feed her hungry family. I decided I would take them home to foster. But, before I could get them home, she decided to move them. There was a tense week when I'd see the queen at feeding time, but despite looking under every bush and even blocks away... I couldn't find the litter. As a hurricane moved toward New Orleans, I became more frantic. I needn't have worried. Co-workers began telling me that they were hearing little kitten noises in the ladies room. By a process of elimination, we found Roxy's litter. She had found a ceiling crawlspace over our executive parking garage. She had jumped into a hole in the parking garage wall over a planter.. a full five feet up.. carrying each of those kittens. With some help, I moved a ceiling tile, pushed aside some insulation in a side wall.. and there they were! She'd found what was probably the safest spot in the city to be during a storm. As I worked long hours providing non-stop news coverage of the approach of Hurricane Gustav... I was able to keep her amply supplied with food and water. The kittens thrived and when the storm threat had passed and power was restored to my home. I was able to bring Roxy and her family home. She was a great mom and we were able to find homes for all her beautiful kittens. Now, she's e enjoying life as a spayed, fat & happy cat with no more worries.
