Birthday: July 4th 2006 Coloration: Black and White Likes: To chew and eat fabric, especially 100% cotton; also cardboard Pet-Peeves: Boo (his littermate) not wanting to play Favorite Toy: A string Favorite Nap Spot: Next to our heads in the bed Favorite Food: Canned EVO chicken Skills: He can open closed doors, and he greets mom by standing on his hind legs and stretching up up up with his front paws to reach me. I bend down to let him pat my face. Dwells:
indoors Arrival Story: He was born on our farm to our feral barn cat. She bore him and his siblings way up in a hollow section of an old oak tree (smart lady - there are several kitten predators around: foxes, coyotes, bob cats and cougars, not to mention dogs!). When their mother (Puss Cat Mew) started bringing her kittens around to eat solid food, we grabbed two, Ivan, and his littermate Boo, and took them to our apartment in the city (which we have as we have to work in the city). We think their mom taught them not to be afraid of us, as it was not difficult to interact with them from the beginning. Their sister Rocket was a little more shy (and her kittens have all been a bit on the shy side), and she lives on the farm with her mom. (She's next in line to get spayed; her mom was spayed shortly after Ivan, Boo and Rocket were weaned.) Bio: He is named Ivan after his predecessor Ian -- we just added a V. He has got the loveliest, petite front paws - the polar opposite of his brother Boo's big, wide, tufted paws. His fur is very silky, especially the black parts. He loves to stand in his human mom's lap and flop over on his side. He'll do this on the bed, too. So we call him Flopsy, and if we call him that, he thinks it's a command and flops right over! One of the pictures at left is of him after he somehow drew a mustache on himself. To this day we don't know how he did that! Another of the pics is him sticking his tongue out. Hilarious! He growls if he hears a loud noise (like a car door slamming) in our apartment building's garage, which our back door leads right into. Our little guard cat! He follows mom everywhere, from the bathroom in the morning (he opens the door by the handle if mom forgets and closes it!), to the computer in the evening, to bed, and everywhere in between. He just loves being with mom. And he loves to talk to mom. He has a few special words that he says only to her: one is "ruh-RAOW". Makes us think of the Jetson's dog, Astro. "Ruh-roh! Highlights: Ivan is always getting into something. He has pica and eats fabric, so we have to put all clothes away. His is very loving and delights in napping with us. He follows us all over the house, and he sits with his human mom when she's getting ready in the morning. He loves to groom his mom's hair but she doesn't let him do it very often (hairspray is not good for him!). Click to read more at The Chronicles of Ivan and Boo.
Catster Coolness: I was one of the Daily Diary Picks on October 8, 2008, November 30, 2008, December 12, 2008, and December 19, 2008! Thanks, Catster Diary Picker Person!
Egad, are we really FOUR today? Hard to believe! Seems like just yesterday we were the kittens playing around in the video on our Catster pages. Well, happy birthday to meeeeeee! Oh, and to Boo, yeah, I almost forgot.
We've started a new birthday tradition, since our birthday is July 4th: we are warning all of our Catster catfriends out there to be careful on this day/night. Stay indoors tonight. It'll be too darn scary outside with all of those loud noises and bright lights! Crazy humans!
Gosh, it's been a while, hasn't it? Mom is SO busy with work, taking care of us, and publishing a webzine that she just hasn't had time to help Boo and me post to Catster. Such a shame. I think we have a talent for dictating things to Mom and having her type them. Like this: Mom is the best human in the world! Hey, wait, I didn't dictate that! Something's wrong with the dictation machine! I mean, it's true, Mom IS the best human in the world, but I didn't happen to say that just then.
Anyway, Boo and I have been relatively busy since our last post. I love to pick on Boo, so he has a safe-spot on top of the trash can (sounds weird, but it's a really nice, stainless steel trash can with a foot pedal for the lid. It's very clean on the outside). Mom has to put trash in a paper shopping bag until Boo happens to leave his safe-spot, or she picks him up, uses the foot pedal to open the trash can, throws the trash in, closes the lid, and deposits Boo back in position. So Boo is busy protecting himself on top of the trash can, and I am busy getting into anything possible, especially if mom accidentally leaves clothes or dish towels laying around. I eat them!
Mom buys us toys all the time, but it's not easy finding toys that really engage us. We love the Bolt laser, and she recently got "Da Bird". She's been eyeballing it forever, but she had toys very much like it, so she stuck with those. But PetSmart had Da Bird on clearance, at a great price, so she picked one up. It's crazy, but Boo and I LOVE that thing more than any of the other feathers on a string toys. Not sure why, but it drives us crazy! Boo is pretty hard to motivate, and he runs around like a crazy cat when Da Bird is out. Mom's going to write a review of Da Bird on her cat product blog, The Ivan and Boo Chronicles at http://ivanandboo.blogspot.com .
We hope all of our Catster friends are well. We're going to start catching up on what you've all been up to now.
Yesterday was my birthday (yeah, it was Boo's, too. We are littermates, after all). Boy, do I hate my birthday - for some reason the whole world seems to celebrate it by making a heckuva lot of noise, especially at night. So I hung out under the bed. Boo's a little more brave, and he joined me only when the noise got really bad around 9:30-10pm. Thank goodness that's right around when mom and dad came home, so we felt better.
We've been tweeting a lot on Twitter lately, so we haven't been on Catster much in a while. Even so, we do miss everyone here!
