Attention and love!
Favorite Nap Spot:
Outside in the sunshine! (On the screened cat porch, of course!)
Surviving and overcoming the odds! He's a fighter!
Sam became blind when he was neutered. His heart stopped on the table, and the vet reported that it took them 8-10 minutes to get his heart going again. The results were blindness and brain damage.
His owners decided to dump him a year later with the excuse that they could not give him a stable home (they are military and move a lot). The next excuse was that their daughter might be allergic to cats. Somehow it was okay to keep their other cat.
Sam had not seen a vet since he was neutered, so he was not up to date on shots. We made the owner get him current on all shots and combo test him before we would take him. We suspect the real reason was given up is because he has serious litterbox issues. (He won't use one.) With his brain damage we suspect he just does not have a clue that he is supposed to use it. Thank goodness for bleach and paper towels!
The first week with Sam was horrible!! He was terrified beyond belief and has done nothing but tried to hurt us. If we hadn't known better, we would have said he was a feral cat.
Many months later, Sam has become a love bug. He wraps himself around your legs and absolutely adores being loved on. His litterbox issues are still there, but he is doing better.

Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary was started to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters and were going to be killed just because they are blind.
We are a registered non profit with the state of North Carolina. There are no paid employees, only volunteers, so all contributions go directly to the kitties.
Rescue is about restoring hope and dignity to creatures for whom no one else cares about. We are but humble vessels to help these magnificent creatures find their forever homes. The responsibility is big but the returns on our emotional investment are greater. You cannot place a value on the look of contentment that comes when an animal is clean, exercised, warm, fed and safe for the first time in its life.
