Quick Bio:
-part feral-cat rescue

Coloration:
Tortoiseshell

Likes:
Being talked to sweetly in a soft, quiet voice, petted and brushed gently by a patient, caring person.

Pet-Peeves:
Loud noises, being startled; small children, trips in the car

Favorite Toy:
a colorful purple and blue stuffed cloth "balloon" with streamers that she likes to play with.

Favorite Nap Spot:
on the bathroom counters (with her blue blanket) or her kitten's open cat carrier

Favorite Food:
She has been on a mixture of Purina Kitten Chow with Maximum Nutrition for Adult outdoor cat formula; but her favorite special treat is#2 Chicken & Gravy Baby Food from Gerber. This is what she responds to best for socialization and training.

Skills:
She is a GREAT mom to her kittens!! -- very loving and affectionate, as Manx cats are known for. She is spayed now, though; so she won't be having any more kittens.

Dwells:
indoors and outdoors

Arrival Story:
Marmee along with her three kittens was found hiding underneath my mother-in-law's back porch. We were feeding them mostly dry kitten/cat food mixed with a little kitten formula for a while before rescuing them and having them all vaccinated, spayed and neutered in preparation for being adopted into loving homes. When we first discovered them, they were all skittish and would not allow us to approach. The kittens have become reasonably socialized; but Marmee may do better being kept outside at least part of the time, perhaps as a barn cat or even in a feral colony. It is difficult for us to assess her true long-term socialization potential, as we have four permanent resident cats with whom (although healthy) Marmee and her kittens have not been able to mix. Marmee would definitely require a quiet, settled environment (no young children or busy households), preferably as a sole cat where her caretakers could provide her with the time and space to see if she will fully acclimate to an indoor lifestyle. Although she has never been handled, she has responded positively to gentle petting and brushing, and will also take treats from your fingers (which most truly feral cats will not even approach people). She has been spayed (& ear tipped), received her basic vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP), tested negative for FELV/FIV (ELISA) and microchipped. All she really needs is someone to give her a chance at a new life.

Bio:
We don't know much about Marmee's background, except there is a residence across and down the street (from where she and her kittens were originally found) which unfortunately MAY be engaging in a little backyard breeding. :( A neighbor had offered that the resident had a number of tailless cats, and that she had seen him (the gentleman who lived there) yelling at Marmee and chasing her out of his yard. The only thing definite was that there was no one taking care for her or her kittens (they were not being fed or sheltered, had fleas, etc.); and due to local ordinances and personal circumstances, returning her to my mother-in-law's as an outside cat was not a viable option. So we are trying to do what we can to provide the best possible life and stable environment for her, whatever that might be. She would probably do best as an only cat (inside), or in an outdoor farm setting or managed feral cat colony.
