Arrival Story:
I adopted Kirby March 27, 2007, just three days after my 17 year old female kitty died (as a result of old age and an illness), Kimba, and after realizing I've never been without a pet. I missed (and still miss) Kimba dearly but was an absolute nervous wreck when I went to meet Kirby (known then as Rusty). His owner said "he's shy, but loving, let him come to you." All I said was "hi, pretty boy." He ran to me and rubbed on me; we've been together ever since. I'm his fourth owner and can confidently say I'm his last. Every day he makes me laugh either by some of his crazy sounds or his playfulness. Initially, my Vet reminded me that we both needed to adjust to each other. Kirby did so way before I. I cried daily - for Kimba and for Kirby and hoped I could love him, and he could love me. The tears didn't last long. He is loving, affectionate, opinionated, and he loves to eat and to play! A friend watched him recently while I spent a week at the beach. She called and said "he's not mad, he doesn't even miss you." Well, when I returned home, he wouldn't eat unless I stayed in the kitchen with him. We now love each other. I asked Kimba in a prayer if she was o.k. with it. I could swear she was next to me by my pillow basically saying it is o.k.

A day in Kirby's life

Kirby's private photo shoot, Sunday, March 28, 2010

Yesterday was Kirby’s (and my) photo shoot, in my apartment, with professional photographers. They were there from 8:40 a.m. until 12:40 p.m.—4 hours! That included set-up, take-down, photo taking, picture viewing, and selecting those slides for purchase.

While they hooked up lights, those umbrella looking things for the lights, computer, etc., Kirby was nosey and in their business.

During the “shoots,” I think Kirby did extremely well, considering, his mom couldn’t get her body shots right, i.e., flatten your arm, curl your hand, shoulders back, head up, eyes open…once I was “posed,” Kirby was ready to move. As we well know, you don’t tell cats what to do; this fur boy of mine certainly is no exception to that unwritten cat rule.

Being my own worst critic, I loved the solo Kirby photos and was so-so on mine, although I did choose 2 of Kirby and me. The photographers said Kirby was, “great with people, large and beautiful, smart and curious, sometimes lion-looking, well-behaved (in spite of the fact he began to growl around 11 a.m.), and overall a ‘ham’ who has ‘tons of in-your-face personality,’ and who appeared to like having his photo taken.” There were many great shots of him staring directly into the camera.

At one point, Kirby took a potty break, only to quickly return and get back to the photo-taking business. Around 11:45 a.m., Kirby laid down on the love seat; he was done, and he promptly began to snore.

Once negatives are here, I’ll share them, if you want to further indulge me. I must say, I have loved all of the many pets who have owned me. This guy, for whatever reason(s), has a massive pull on my heartstrings. I feel like such the proud momma today!

Hey guys,
Got my stitches out yesterday--no cancer! My lump was some type of dermatitis thing. My mom and I are so happy. Mom made chicken for me last night; my favorite! Take care, and keep purring!

Normal for Kirby

Hi,
So, last night I made chicken for my boy (I only give him about a tablespoon). You'd think it was steak the way he eats it. He jumped in and out of my windows, ate some dead bugs, ate some onion skin, played, let me brush him for a long time (I don't like the hairless butt cheeks). It appears all is good.
This morning I was awakened by sounds like: boom, bang, crash...Kirby was playing. He is back to normal despite stitches.
See ya.
