Arrival Story:
Lexy literally showed up on my doorstep one excrutiatingly hot summer day when I lived in Arizona. I first met her laying on my doorstep when I left for work in the morning. She was there when I returned home that evening. I put some water and food out for her, but found her there in the same position the following morning, with the food and water untouched. My boyfriend and I took her to the vet where we learned that all four of her paws were badly burned, she was bruised all over her little body, and was severely dehydrated. We put signs up all over the neighborhood, but nobody came to claim her. Though she was very unfriendly, we knew she had been through some very hard times and decided to make her part of our family.

Bio:
After four exhaustive months, Lexy finally decided I was okay and trustworthy. She spent those first four months hiding under the clothes in my closet, only coming out at night to eat and use the litter box. If I came near her, she would growl ferociously, hiss, and swipe at me with her paws. I would lay on the floor of the closet for hours, talking gently to her. I'd reach my hand out for her to smell. Slowly, she began to allow me to scratch under her neck and on top of her head. One night when I laid down to go to bed, she hopped up and curled up next to me under the covers. She purred her little heart out. I was shocked but so very happy. From then on, we were best pals. Lexy never learned to trust or like anyone else, human or animal, but she sure loved me. And I sure loved her. My poor little Lou Bear passed away in July of 2008. Lexy had a severe stroke and was no longer able to walk, stand, or eat by herself. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to have her put down. I miss my Lou so much.
