Arrival Story: Cleo and her brother, Damon, were adopted from the North Shore Animal League. The plan was for two kittens -- one for me, and one for my then roommate and his girlfriend. That day at NSAL, there weren't any kittens. We must have been there for several hours, weighing our options. I wasn't opposed to a cat, but there weren't any adult cats that we could agree upon. We'd pretty much come to the conclusion that we wouldn't be leaving with new feline friends and we'd come back another day. Then, all of a sudden, they appeared -- the two CUTEST kittens ever! I just knew as soon as I saw them, that was it ... spending time with them at the shelter sealed the deal. So, home they came with us. Originally, Damon was supposed to be my cat, and the roommates had Cleo ... but there were two problems with this plan -- (a) cats choose you, you don't choose them, and (b) it was understood that I wouldn't live in the apartment forever. Lucky for me, I had smart and reasonable roommates -- they knew it wouldn't be wise to split up the cats, and that I should depart with both, when the time came. When it did, Cleo quickly decided that I belonged to her, and Damon chose my new roommate. Later on, when I moved in with Jon, Damon chose him as his best friend.

Bio: UPDATE -- Cleo has another tumor, and it's getting bigger. There is nothing else that can be done at this point ... well, there are things that could be done, but the treatment vs. the trauma she'd go through ... well, if she were a different cat, I WOULD do kitty chemo and whatever else I could. But she's not -- she's Cleo, a special but somewhat fragile soul, so I'm trying my best to keep her happy and send her good thoughts. Please do the same!!!
****************************
Cleo LOVES being petted, sleeping on the humans, spending time with Damon, and watching pigeons from the window sill. She's a little clumsy for a cat, but she's never hurt herself for lack of balance. Recently, Cleo was diagnosed with kitty breast cancer. She has gone through THREE surgeries since May 2005, but she is a little trooper. Two tumors were removed in the first two surgeries; the third procedure was a precautionary measure, since both tumors were malignant. We are keeping our fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that she will be OK. She is such a special little cat. Even her vet says what a nice cat she is. Please say a kitty prayer for her!
