Arrival Story: Stripe was my brother's cat, but he decided to get a dog (Patton). After that she became my mom's and my cat :-)

Bio: Stripe began having bloody urine in late May 2002. We took her to the vet and she was diagnosed as having a UTI. 2 weeks pass and she is getting worse not better so we take her back into the vet. They did an xray which showed a massive tumor on/in her bladder. The vet wanted to do surgery - we wanted a second opinion. We took her to another clinic and they did a needle biopsy - which showed a very fast growing malignant tumor. They gave her a shot of depo-medrol and gave us a referral to an oncologist. Stripe did really well for about 2 weeks (no blood in the urine). She was her normal cranky self until 3 days before she died. She started to become more lethargic. I came home from school and found her on the stairs. I picked her up and called my mom - I knew that her time left with us was short. We decided to call the vet in the morning to have her PTS. That night I put her special box on my bed she seemed to be resting peacefully when all of a sudden she stood up and fell on her face. I knew something was wrong - her breathing had changed as well. I called my mom into my room - we both knew that this was it. We called the vet right away and had to leave a message. We both just kept petting her and telling her how much we loved her and that it was ok - she could go - we would be alright (eventually). Her breaths were getting farther and farther apart until finally she stopped breathing. Her whole body started to shake - it only lasted a few seconds but it seemed like hours. The vet called back 30 minutes after the ordeal was over. They said to wrap her in a towel and bring her in the morning. I picked her up and held her for awhile before finally wrapping her in a blanket. Letting her go was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I still miss her alot- everyday. Stripe died of cancer July 10th 10:55pm 2002
