Arrival Story:
I rescued this cat at a clinic I worked in in 1997. He was going to be euthenized because the family who had him for 9 years was getting leather furniture. He was a declawed and neutered house cat that they didn't want anymore. The local shelter would not take him do to his age, so I took him. Whitehouse was 100% deaf, and a HUGE cat! He loved to be vaccummed, walking (on a leash) at the park where he would sniff noses with the dogs, and drink from puddles. He loved car rides, and spending time rolling in the grass. Whitehouse died of cancer in september. He lived seven more years with me, and was a very special boy. I miss him more then words can express, and will love my lion forever.

Senior Kitties at the shelter

At work I see people dropping off their beloved senior kitties, leaving them and driving away without so much as a tear in their eye. Ms Kitty- 10 year old long haired orange tabby, Merlin, 11 year old buff male (who came in screaming in the litter box because he was blocked). Earl- 12 year old grey long hair, Aggie- 8 year old tuxedo, Angelo- 10+ years old and left in an apartment when the family moved out. Earl, Angelo, and Aggie have been there forover a year, and the others will sit for a long time too. How can a family dispose of a cat they have had for a decade? Easy, and then they complain about the incoming fee to help pay to spay/neuter and feed the cat they have just dumped off. A pet is forever, and people who come in and adopt, just don't want an older cat. My Whitehouse was a wonderful feline, and a special part of my family. I can't imagine abandoning a pet in their golden years, when they need their people the most. I would live in my car before dumping any of my pets off in a shelter, that is called dedication and love. The 85 cats, 38 dogs, and 3 rabbits in the shelter were not lucky enough to find someone who really loved them. Please spay and neuter your pets, and consider andopting a senior pet.

Whitehouse- Rest well my majestic lion, hear the angels sing and hear me whisper I love you........
