Arrival Story:
We needed a companion for JJ Jagger; one of the vet's technicians had babies she needed to find a home for. When I went to choose, there were two left - Speck and his sister. He was twice her size, was very quiet and she never stopped screaming. The choice was easy! We wanted to name him Spot, but it was too much of a dog name, so we chose Speck, as he had a tiny speck of black onthe bottom of each back paw.

Everyone loved Speck as he was most friendly and was a slow-witted silly cat. For six months we thought he was mute until one day he "cussed" at us; his voice was very "garbled" and sounded more like a sailor cursing than anything else! He simply had very little to say. From the beginning he had ill health; two birth defects were evident and only one he out grew. The ligaments in his front paws were growing faster than his bones and that caused him to sit up in a bunny pose, or lie down to eat and drink. He evetually "evened-out" but the bunny pose reamined. Also, an embryonic sac that normally leaves the bladder at birth remained near the opening and he suffered bladder infections and stomach ailments all his life. His weight bounced around and his diet was very strict at times; when he was really sick, I would bake him a chicken breast to encurage him to eat. By the age of 15 1/2 his kidneys failed and we had to give him fluids often. He was so mild-mannered he would often doze during these treatmets. By age 17 he began having seizures and as they became more frequent it was evident it was time to put him to sleep. On the morning of August 5, 2002, he had one last seizure that took him from us. I agonized over not having put him to sleep, or trying to sooner, but I know he has forgiven me. Speck is romping around with JJ over the Rainbow Bridge where they wait for me to join them.
