Arrival Story:
I am a foster mom for one of the local humane societies. Johore was one of a litter of five, 5 week old "little hissers" that was pulled from a local shelter. He was the worst of the litter, bound and determined that no one was going to tame him. Johore slowly started to accept human attention. At 12 weeks of age, he and his littermates were spayed/neutered and I brought them home the same day. The next morning I was up very early so I could make it to an early morning meeting at work. When I entered the cat room, Johore stood up, moved towards the door of the cat condo and collapsed. When I picked him up, I found he was covered in blood and cold. I've never dressed so fast in my life as I rushed to get him to the emergency clinic. At the clinic, they could not get a temperature and had to take the clinic cat out of retirement to give Johore a transfusion. Three days of round-the-clock veterinary care and Johore was on the mend. Later tests showed that Johore's platelets don't work right so his blood doesn't clot properly. Once well, Johore was available for adoption but no one wanted a black cat with blood problems. By this time also, no one would probably be willing to answer the many probing questions his doting and devoted foster mom wanted to ask. I decided that Johore need to stay with me and I adopted him in July 2002.
