Arrival Story:
Marge was rescued with Shelly, Homer, & Clementine by our cat-hero Jennifer. Homer & Marge are siblings. They came from a breeder who decided they were not up to the standards of the breed and was not taking care of them. She was keeping them in a small cage in a barn. Jennifer became aware of them by an employee of the breeder. The breeder was going to take them and euthanise them, but thankfully, Jennifer got her to give them to her instead. They both came sick with a viral eye infection. The vet diagnosed them with a herpes infection. After about a month of treatment, they each had to have their right eye removed because of the pain it was causing them. Marge was really shy for a while due to the pain and constant medications, but she has really come out of her shell. Now Marge is actually one of the first ones to venture up and say hi. Homer is able to see minimally out of his left eye.

Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary was started to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters and were going to be killed just because they are blind. We are a registered non profit with the state of North Carolina. There are no paid employees, only volunteers, so all contributions go directly to the kitties. Rescue is about restoring hope and dignity to creatures for whom no one else cares about. We are but humble vessels to help these magnificent creatures find their forever homes. The responsibility is big but the returns on our emotional investment are greater. You cannot place a value on the look of contentment that comes when an animal is clean, exercised, warm, fed and safe for the first time in its life.
