Arrival Story: We got Alf from a neighbor's litter of kittens in 1985, when my boys were both small. Alf turned out to be the best type of kitty anyone could want for a housecat and a family with children and other pets. He never gave us a moment's trouble with scratching or using any area for a potty except his litterpan. His purrsonality was mellow, friendly and curious. Nothing got past the Ol' Alfer! He was always with me or the boys and would "help" anyone get into anything! After we got another kitty, Rocki...he "adopted" her with no question. When she died five years later from heart disease, we were given a tortoiseshell kitten, Flower. Alf raised her with great love and affection and they were pals until he died at the great age of 20 years. Alf got a little senile in his latter couple of years, but otherwise continued to have the great purrsonality he was born with. He was greatly loved and Alf will always be missed.

Bio: When Alf was about 10 years old, he ate a GUITAR STRING! A metal one from my son, Eddie's Gibson. I was at work, but Eddie came home from school one day and when he was greeted by Alf, he noticed something bobbing from the cat's mouth. Alf was pawing at his mouth also and when Eddie touched the stringlike object, he was amazed at what it was! Back into his little truck Eddie went, this time with Alf in a carrier and off to the vet! In an emergency surgery, the vets took out the ENTIRE LENGTH of a metal guitar string that had actually worked its way partly into the intestines! We'll never know HOW Alf swallowed this "toy"...he was probably playing with it because it would spring back when he pawed it. The vets theorized that it bobbed back very hard and into his mouth and he started to swallow. Why he continued to swallow it, I couldn't say. Nothing was punctured inside my sweet boy and he came home in a couple of days with a stitched up and naked belly. Alf healed fine and went on with his life. The vet techs told me he was so friendly and sweet that they wanted to keep him! Alf, the Amazing Guitar String Eating Cat!!! I love you, Afer!!!
