All About Sammy

Sammy is back to normal!

Just want to let you all know that Sammy is back to his old self and feeling great. The weight he lost, when he was ill, is back on and thus far all is well in Sammyland!

Message From Sammy

First thank you to everyone here that offered support and advice.

I am feeling better now and I am eating hard food as well as a little bit of soft food (chicken flavor 9 Lives today). I can eat a little at a time now. My stomach still is soar but I am feeling more like myself every day.

So my daddy says I will be ok! I know one thing. I am staying away from those round, copper-colored things daddy calls pennies from now on! Who would of thought one of those could have given me mild zinc poisoning!

Good News About Sammy

He is eating crunchy kitty food- so he is starting to eat again. The vet seemed to agree that he may have had a bit of zinc poisoning. We remembered he had been playing with a penny and he may have had it in his mouth. According to the vet and an online bit of info I found on Catsters pennies are the prime source of zinc that kitty's can get it from.

Zinc: Present in everything from pennies to sunblock to shampoos, this metal can cause severe internal damage at the cellular level. Symptoms: For minor exposures, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; for major doses, severe anemia, weakness, jaundice, bloody urine, and multiple organ failure. Treatment: Seek immediate veterinary care. Treatment is usually ineffective in high-dose cases.

The symptoms we the same as what Sammy had...so hopefully all will be well. He needs to gain back a bunch of weight. He lost a lot of mass the last few day.

Lucky for us and Sammy is was a minimal exposure so he should be ok :)
