Arrival Story:
Coconut is both blind and deaf. Although his world is dark and silent, he is a very loving fellow. Coconut is a very handsome cat with one blue eye and one green eye. Coconut was rescued by the director of a Humane Society in Virginia. She adopted him into her family. Fast forward a few years... She is now getting divorced and must give up her house. The apartments she is moving into only allows two cats, and her other two cats are very old and she has had them for many years. She contacted the HS that she got him from (she no longer works there), and they said they would accept him back. (They are a no-kill. Please note - although so many no-kills say they are no-kills that means they do not kill animals they say are adoptable. If a shelter determines that the animal is unadoptable, they will euthanize it.) She did not feel safe taking him back....it was kitten season and he would spend the rest of his life in a cage or worse. She was afraid that they would deem him unadoptable and euthanize him for the cage space. She asked us if we would please accept him. Coconut is a sweet, loving fellow that gets along with everyone else.

Sanctuary:
Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary was started to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters and were going to be killed just because they are blind. We are a registered non profit with the state of North Carolina. There are no paid employees, only volunteers, so all contributions go directly to the kitties. Rescue is about restoring hope and dignity to creatures for whom no one else cares about. We are but humble vessels to help these magnificent creatures find their forever homes. The responsibility is big but the returns on our emotional investment are greater. You cannot place a value on the look of contentment that comes when an animal is clean, exercised, warm, fed and safe for the first time in its life.
