We (me and my brothers Blaze, Mr Grey and Spot) got to go for an outing today! We had an appointment to get our photos taken at our vet. Our vet has these pet photo days where she has a professional pet photographer come and take photos for a reasonable rate. Bianca (the dog) and Church and Roxy already had their photos taken last year but me and my brothers didn't.
So we got to go out for a nice trip to get to the photographer! I rode in the stroller with Mr Grey and Blaze and Spot got to have the Sleepypod to himself.
When we got there the photographer tried to get us to pose in a basket, but it was tight fit and the other kitties kept trying to wander off while I sat nicely in the basket and posed. Then she had us sit on a little couch, with the same results. Of course I know that I am the star of the show so I just sat there nicely and posed, but my brothers did not want to sit still! Finally I got a turn to get my photo taken alone without the boys misbehaving and getting in my way. After my turn they tried to get some photos of Blaze and Mr Grey but they were not cooperating. While it was their turn I hung out on the little couch and wondered why they weren't taking photos of ME!
We took some pictures of me waiting on the couch and of us in the stroller after the photo session was finished, you can see them in my Catster photobook (on page 3) and in Mr Grey's photobook.
I want to be a model so I needed to get a professional photo taken for my Animal Actor listing. Church and Roxy are already listed: http://www.amazinganimals.biz/cats.htm
They require professional photos for the registration, so now Spot and I will be able to be registered too! Church had already had a modeling job with The Sophisticated Cat website, he modeled cat clothes for them and he also went to several auditions including one for the Meow Mix Think Like a Cat game show, a movie audition, and Church and Roxy auditioned for a cat food commercial once. We have to wait a few weeks/month before we get our photos.

(written by Harlequin's human)
I was at a household cat competition this weekend, at the Chicagoland Pet Expo. I took Harlequin and her brother Mr Grey. The household cat show at the expo isn't affiliated with any cat organization like TICA or CFA (although the judges are TICA judges) so they do it a little differently. They had 2 judges on Sat and 2 on Sun, both pick their top 10 for finals. Sunday they also did a costume contest and trick contest, and after the judging they add up all the points for both days and do the top 10 best in show. Last year Harlequin got Best in Show and the year before that my polydactyl Maine Coon Roxy got Best in Show...
This was Mr. Grey's first show. He was nervous on Saturday but didn't seem especially scared when being judged, although he did try to hide behind the litterbox a lot in the benching cage. Sunday he was more relaxed. On Sunday I also brought their brother Spot along because he was invited to one of the vendor booths.
Harley was at the show last year and a TICA show last fall but hasn't done any since then. I was surprised that she didn't play much on the judging table at all because she is usually very playful and she did at the other shows (she's a little older now though, she was 8 months old at the show last year.) She was comfortable but not playful. The only time she really played was in the judging cages. One of the judges got out a laser pointer when the cats were in the judging cages. The other cats just glanced at it but Harley went crazy playing with it!
There were 15 cat entered in the show. On Saturday Mr. Grey got 8th place in both rings, Harley got 7th and 6th. On Sunday Mr. Grey got 8th place in one ring, Harley got a 5th and a 2nd. When they did the best in show finals, Mr Grey got 10th best and Harley got 4th. Not bad. The Best in Show winner was a 13-year-old tortie and white and the 2nd place was a Aby/Scottish Fold mix owned by the same person as the 13-year-old cat.
After the cat show was finished I took the cats to a vendor booth. We met this vendor last year, she had dog clothes for sale and I brought the cats over to see if anything would fit them. She asked if she could measure the cats because she wanted to start making cat clothes but only had one cat and wanted to know what sizes she should make. Later we emailed back and forth and she sent me some clothes to try on my cats so she could fine-tune the fit. I told her I'd come by at the show as well to try some more clothes and in return she gave me a t-shirt for each of the kitty 'models'.
After that I took Spot and Harlequin to the booth for the clinic that has the animal blood donor program Spot (and my dog) are participating in. They had invited us over so people could see some of the blood donors. I really wish I had gotten a photo of them at the booth because they were so calm and relaxed even with all the people passing by and petting them and such. There were two BIG dogs at the booth who were also blood donors and the cats didn't mind them at all, even when one came and sniffed the carrier. I wish I had gotten some photos of that but I didn't think of it until after!

I went to my first TICA show this weekend! My brother Blaze came too. I've been to one show before, it was not with a cat organization but was an all household pet show held at a big pet expo last March. Blaze has never been to a show before at all.
I think I did great! I got finals in 8 out of the 10 rings (4 out of 5 rings both days.) There were 19 total household pets entered in the show so they only gave finals for the top 5 cats.
You can see a video of me at the show on my page!
Here's my scores:
Ring 1. Best of Division; Best Specialty SH HHP Adult final
Ring 2. Best of Division; Best Specialty SH HHP Adult final
Ring 3. 3rd of Division
Ring 4. Best of Division; 3rd Best Specialty SH HHP Adult final
Ring 5. 2nd of Division; 4th Best Allbreed HHP Adult final
Ring 1. 3rd of Division
Ring 2. Best of Division; 2nd Best Allbreed HHP Adult final
Ring . Best of Division; 4th Best Allbreed HHP Adult final
Ring 4. Best of Division; 2nd Best Allbreed HHP Adult final
Ring 5. Best of Division; Best Allbreed HHP Adult final!
I earned enough points and finals to qualify for the "Master" title (the household pet equivalent to "Champion") on Saturday and enough at the end of Sunday to qualify for Grand Master title.
Blaze was scared and kinda hid at the back of the cages so he did not do that well in the competition. He did get one final, 3rd Best Allbreed today and he got enough points to get the "Master" title. He didn't hiss or anything, he just had his tail between his legs... I just wanted all the judges to play with me but Blaze didn't get it.
If you don't know how it works in TICA household pet competition, they have a number of judges and rings in each show. The show this weekend had five rings on Sat. and five on Sun. Each judge first awards the cats for Best of Color. Then the cats of each type compete for Best of Division, in my case both of my cats are considered Tabby and White so that is the division they compete in.
Each judge awards for their top 3 best in Division. After that they award finals. How many depends on the number of cats there are, if there are under 20 they award their top 5 cats. There were 19 total adult household pets in the show, so the only awarded the top 5. A Specialty ring means the judge awards finals for the top 5 longhairs and then the top 5 shorthairs separately. An Allbreed ring means the judge awards their top 5 cats out of all the longhair and shorthair adults. So for example at this show there were 12 shorthair household pet adults and 7 longhair the first day, so if a household pet got 1st place (Best) in a Specialty SH ring it means they were the judge's favorite out of the 12 shorthairs in the show. If a household pet got 1st place in an Allbreed ring it means they were the judge's favorite out of all 19 household pets in the show. So it is harder to get a final for an Allbreed ring because you have more competition. On Sunday all five rings were Allbreed.
In TICA to get a "Master" title a household pet has to get 300 points and one final. For "Grand Master" they need 1000 points and 6 finals under 4 different judges.
