Arrival Story:
I had a friend from work who called me up to help her rescue and find homes for some kittens that had been abandoned. We knew someone who was wanting a Siamese and she knew there was one among the kittens so we went to see how many kittens we could catch that day. When I saw "that" Siamese kitten, he looked just like my first cat who was also Siamese (Toby) and I decided that he was coming home with ME!!!! (sorry, Teresa! -- she ended up with one of the other kittens from the bunch) Laura grabbed the Siamese up and stuffed him in a box (after he hissed and scratched and bit her a couple times). I brought him home and named him TJ (for Toby Junior, because he looked so much like Toby). He was only about 4 weeks old so I had to bottle feed him and that was a real experience. He would fit in the palm of my hand when I brought him home and within a year he grew to be 20 pounds! The bottle feeding experienced created a bond between us than cannot be broken and he is "MY" cat -- he is extremely shy around everyone else and it took him a LONG time to warm up to the various roommates I had after my husband passed away, and he is now fairly comfortable with my present husband -- it took a few months, though. Me and TJ have been through some things -- we had a house fire in 1997 and he and another cat were in the house when the fire fighters got in -- he was hiding under the bed in the guest room and the fire was starting to come through the wall in that room when he was rescued. His white fur was kind of smoking looking, he didn't smell very good for a while and he had a cough for a couple weeks, but the bond between him and me never wavered. (We were not home at the time of the fire -- if I had been, I probably would have died in the flames because I would have been trying to rescue my cats from the guest room, and the fire was outside the door of the bedroom where I was sleeping at the time ---) After the fire, we had to move into an apartment for 16 months (with 5 cats and 2 dogs) and then we moved back to the same property into a brand new manufactured home -- so TJ had to go through a lot of changes -- and he is still here to tell the story. We also went through the death of my late husband, the trauma of the emergency personnel in the house at that time, strangers coming and going, several roommates, a new husband -- and the latest, two dogs! TJ spends most of his time under the bed, but he does come out to eat in the morning and the evening, into the bathroom where I have food, water and a litter box for him. It brings tears to my eyes when I think about the friendship I have with this wonderful cat!!! He is very, very special!
