Clara’s Concerto

Meowmy had a big performance last night. She came home with some beautiful flowers, which she put into a tall vase.

This morning, I decided it was my turn to play a concerto. I leaped up onto the MIDI piano, which inadvertently had been left on. The opening of my solo piece was low, loud and dissonant—reminiscent of a certain pivotal moment in the song “Charlie Rutlage” by Charles Ives. After a few minutes of silence in the style of John Cage, I continued my concerto into the higher octaves of the instrument, producing combinations similar to the complex, shimmering harmonies of Olivier Messiaen. During a brief reprise in the low register, meowmy started flashing lights at me. That’s when I cut my concerto short and skipped directly to the coda. I walked up to the top of the keyboard and jumped off. It was a brilliant performance!

Where are my flowers, meowmy?
