Arrival Story: I had been feeding a feral, Shadow, in my barn for a couple of years. I suspected there was someone else as well, so I set up a "game camera" that's triggered by motion, and I caught a photo of a grey tabby eating in the barn. About 2 months after the photo, I walked into the barn and heard a meow - and over the edge of the loft appeared a grey tabby head! :) He popped right down onto the high table where the food was and insisted on having his ears rubbed. I named him Shade. Shortly thereafter, I picked him up, put him into the carrier, and took him to the vet for neutering and vaccinating. I brought him home the next day - and he promptly disappeared! Ok, he was angry with me. I figured he'd never get his booster shots, but to my amazement, on the very day they were due a month later, he showed up! I took him right away & got the booster shots for him. He stayed in or near the barn after that, and would follow me around the field in the evening. I walked him to t--he back, where the ferals hunt - lots of good hunting ground there, and it's away from the road. I wanted to try him in the house, but I was getting ready to leave for a couple of weeks and knew the time wasn't right. Before I left, I bought an extra-large self-feeder and waterer, and told the neighbor who'd be taking care of the ponies about him; there was no reason, in June, for him not to do just fine while I was away. The morning I was to leave (taking the house cats with me), Shade was not to be found. I figured he knew something was up, so he was keeping low. With the vehicle packed, including the 3 house cats, I turned out of the driveway and started down the hill - and found Shade's mangled body on the road. I had no idea he'd been going that far from home and still don't understand why. I picked his body up, laid it in a clean box, covered with clean packing paper and some of the mint that he so loves, and left it for a friend who said he'd come later and bury the body. I like to think that, although he was with me for only 17 days, that he's mine because I care about him, I took care of him, and I love him. At least he had a home and love on Earth before moving on to the Bridge.

Bio: Shade's bridgeday is June 23, 2006.
