Arrival Story:
Apollo's mom, Belle, was surrendered to the humane society after she gave birth to 5 kittens. Apparently the owner's father was unwilling to let them stay. I got the e-mail and agreed to foster the group. These honeys have been living at my house since they were a week old, for two months. I had my pick of the litter and since I am finally in a position to own cats... I chose Luis and Apollo.

Bio:
Apollo has had a rough time growing up, his mom was emaciated when she had the babies, and she was not able to produce enough milk for her babies until they were 4 1/2 weeks old. This group was my first foster, so I was not concerned about their weight until we realized at 4 weeks old that they were too thin (his sister was only 219g, and as the biggest sibling, Apollo was 306g). We started supplementing immediatly, and they were doing a great job getting caught up. But when they were 9 weeks old, and really close to weighing enough to get sterilized and go up for adoption... Luis and two of his siblings started losing weight rapidly. We traced it back to the humane society giving us a different hard food for them. We changed it back, but by the time they stopped the diarrhea they had lost about 100 grams. (Apollo was always the biggest kitten, and he wasn't affected by the diarhhea.) The pictures that are not of him are of his mommy, his brother, and his sister. The entire family was adopted very quickly.

Apollo The Great

The loss of the first of my 9 lives

August 24th 2008 2:34 am   [link to this entry]

I really love to sit in the windowsill in the basement and watch the world go by outside. It's also a lot cooler next to the window, because we don't have air conditioning. I noticed that something was up when late one night my dad went outside and was doing something right outside of the window. I jumped up there because I wanted to be out there with him! But when I jumped up onto the ledge dad kicked the window in! I didn't even know that the window moved! Mom said that the windows were painted shut and required a kick, but nobody knew I was going to jump up there. I flew, claws swinging to catch on anything and I grabbed onto mommy with all my might.

I'm still scared of that window... but it is nicer with a breeze!
