A Day in the Life of Maynrys

My Little Bunny Hop

Mom read today that the bunny hop run that some of us Manx cats do is considered a deficit trait by some cat fanciers in North America. Mom politely says they may have good reasoning for their opinions, but I say have they actually seen me running. My bunny hop run, the movement that may have led to the "cabbit" idea of the centuries gone by, is too darn cute to be considered undesirable. After my tailless state, my hippity-hoppity gait is the next thing people notice about me.

Happy Birthday to Me!

No one knows my real birthday, so my mommy chose this one to celebrate me! I'm about four now and still cute as they come.

Almost A Year

It has been almost a year since my parents adopted me. I have proven not only to be a cute little, round kitty, but also a nice girl. I was marked as a stray at the shelter I lived in the months before my family adopted me. Daddy thought I was the coolest looking cat - small, no tail, tough. I acted very stoic toward the humans who came to look around in the communal cat room, perhaps that's why I waited so long to be adopted. Luckily, my Daddy knew I was the girl for him and I got a new home. It has taken me awhile to make myself comfortable and show my personality. Mom and Dad think I may have been abused and made mistrustful. But Mom and Dad take loving care of me. They take me to the vet for my allergies and give me supplements for my feline herpes. With their love over the past year, I have been able to come out of my stoic shell and I have proven that my cuteness isn't skin deep. :)

No Tail!

Recently, my parents were asked how I lost my tail! This was by the vet's assistant no less. I mewed at her that I had no need for a tail! I never lost it because I never had it. I was born this beautiful! Just look at my cute little rumpy bottom. Who would want to spoil that with a tail?

I'm a Little Barrel

I was nicknamed the Barrel and Root Beer by some human children. They say I am so round that I look like a barrel. Don't they understand that I owe that wide-flank look to my noble Manx heritage? I owe many characteristics to my Manx heritage. The most notable is probably my little, rumpy butt. I have no tail which helps contribute to my rounded build. I also reflect my Manxness on the inside. I have a sweet little meow and make a gentle twitter sound. Mommy thinks I'm extra cute when I meow so forcibly that my front legs pop off the ground, but the sound out of my mouth remains gentle and sweet. I am very intelligent. I quietly observe everything and easily solve problems. Like most cats of Manx heritage, my hind legs are noticeably longer than my front ones, permitting me to powerfully jump about like a rabbit (or perhaps the legendary cabbit). I love to jump about rubbing my neck and flank on things - just hold your hand out to me palm down, and I will jump up to it. However, what I love most of all is a good belly rub. When Mommy or Daddy come to pet me, I jump in my bed and roll over so they may rub my chest and belly well (Oh, the glory of it all!). Yes, I am a barrel, but I am many things Manx. That's what makes me beautifully Maynrys.

I Was Tagged by Kepler

I was tagged by Kepler to list six things I dislike.

1. I dislike riding in the car.

2. I dislike taking medicine (I have some medical problems for which I take a liquid and pill everyday). I'm the sweetest little girl, but I might bite if you try to put a pill down my throat.

3. I dislike non-seafood soft food. Mommy "hides" a powdered medicine in a bit of soft food, but I will only eat it all if it's seafood, really stinky seafood.

4. I dislike Kepler, my brother, when he plays too rough. He needs to learn to control his claws and bites. Otherwise, I like to mother him.

5. I dislike hearing other kitties crying at the vet. It stresses me out, and I try to find out where they are.

6. I dislike when Kepler and Caly fight. I run to the melee crying and hissing until everyone decides to stop or our parents startle them apart.

All About Me

I've been in my new home for a couple of months. My new family has been learning much about me, but I don't let them know too much at once. I like to retain a bit of my mystery, but, because they have been so kind, I've let them know the following.

1. I like to wiggle my tailless rump when I play.
2. I have a soft, chirping meow.
3. I hop up like a little rabbit when I rub my neck and flank on people or furniture.
4. My short, dense coat requires little human maintenance (especially those bath things - the one I got when I first arrived was enough to last a life time.)
5. I know how to use a scratching post and rarely scratch the furniture, but I still find the chair that belonged to Mommy's great-grandmother irresistible.
6. I know what the word "no" means. All Mommy has to do is say "no" when I attack her great-grandmother's chair, and I will turn my scratching attentions to the post so conveniently located near the chair. However, when I don't think anyone's looking, I'll go back to the chair ;)
7. I am a kitty with FHV-1 and show the symptoms readily in my eyes. However, Mommy and Daddy give me Lysine in a taste of soft food to control my symptoms.
8. I am a mothering-type cat, and I like to take care of the other kitties. Unfortunately, the only one who will let me do this is Kepler, but he is still young.
9. I become very nervous when Kepler and Caly turn the house into an Ultimate Fighting championship bout. I run towards the hisses and growls and try to break up the fight.
10. I know how to sit on my tailless butt. I can even balance on it while I stretch my neck into the air, producing a stance that reminds Mommy of a prairie dog looking around.
