Arrival Story:
My owner met me at an event for the shelter she volunteers with - Purrfect Pals. There were a bunch of us adoptable cats from the shelter and I saw her and she smiled at me and came over. When she opened the cage door and bent down to look at me I surprised her by giving her a headbutt and purring like mad! She read my paperwork and found out the prior owner had given me up a week ago because I was peeing on stuff. But the vet report didn't show that he'd found anything wrong with me. Laura was so surprised at how relaxed I was at the event. But then when a little kid ran up it scared me and I cowered and hid. And each time a noisy young kid came up I seemed VERY scared. She picked up my papers and read more of my info and found that my former owner had a young boy. Laura's cat Luna had peed on stuff before when she was dating a very bad guy that was using drugs and making her very, very sad and they were often fighting. When she got rid of him, Luna was fine - and has been since! So she had a feeling that any problems I had probably had nothing to do with me - it was what I was having to put up with. The second day of the event Laura decided she'd take me home and see if her kitties liked me - and if I liked them.

Bio:
When we got home she was going to put me in a separate room for a bit but I saw this REALLY big but smiling black dog and I jumped right out the door of my crate and headbutted him! Then I ran to the back of the house and found Luna, the older black kitty. I headbutted her and she jumped back quite startled. Then I got to meet Penny and Percy. They're both really nice and Percy is especially fun to play with! I was a bit wary of Laura when I first got to her home. I couldn't help it - all I'd known was abuse. I would run if she tried to pick me up and loud noises really scared me. I also wouldn't let her touch my face or paws. But Laura gave me space and let me take my time to get used to living there. And I quickly realized that no one wasn't going to hurt me - everyone just wanted to LOVE me! It took a couple of months but now I'm so comfortable here that I'll lay on the futon out in the living room flat on my back. And I throw myself at Laura's feet - begging to be picked up. I also don't mind at all having my nails clipped, my eyes cleared and my ears cleaned. And I actually getting my coat combed out. It was all shaved short when she got me but now it's long and silky - I look REALLY pretty! Laura soon realized something about me - something she'd seen in both Penny and Percy when she adopted them. Both of them were adults when she adopted them and they didn't know a thing about toys. It took awhile till they knew what to do with them! And I hadn't seen toys before either! I saw Percy and Penny going CRAZY for anything mom waved or tossed at them. At first I kinda hung back and looked at them like "What are you guys doing?" But now - two months later - I'm like a little kitten and going CRAZY for toys just like them! TOYS RULE!!!! Man, what I've been missing my first three years! I'm a showcat now just like Percy and Penny. And I'm really good at it! I win lots of "Bests" and I'm just a few points shy of "Best" in the Northwest and I'm 11th Best Internationally! Showing is a lot of fun and mom says it lets other people know how great adult shelter cats are so I don't mind strutting my stuff if it means more kitties will get adopted!
