He knows when I'm coming home :)
Hamms' story of how he came to be adopted was kinda sad, but I'm glad I have him... I found him through an ad posted outside a local grocery store and met him a few days later at a home in Sacramento. The couple who had him told me his litter's story - they were born to a mother that was feral yet sort of living the the backyard of a relative of theirs when she had the litter. A little after a month of having the litter, the mom was ran over in the adjacent street :( So anyhow... the family took care of the litter and homes were found for all of them. Hamms was the second to last of the litter left when I met him. He was bullying the other one left of the litter, the runt. I noticed he was a feisty little guy and took him home. The previous cat we had before him was named Pabst and we also had a local cat around the house we called Old Mill... so I decided to continue the tradition and name him Hamms. He's probably the best friend I've had.
Hamms is a very friendly cat. You walk in the door, and he'll come out to greet you and be rubbing up on your leg. But watch out! Give him too much attention and he'll start playing, w/ claws teeth and everything. Play too long w/ him, you'd better watch your back when trying to walk away from it :) The first few years of his life he was primarily an outdoor cat, which probably accounts for the feistiness in him, but when we had to move to Arizona, that had to change due to the coyotes. It was hard for him at first, but he's accustomed to it now... he requires lots of attention and likes to curl up next to you and constantly follows me throughout the house... almost like a dog :)
He's a pretty crazy cat... theres nothing he loves more than playing/fighting and gets really riled up... sometimes beyond the point at where he doesnt realize his biting & clawing hurts... but thats rare. About 1/3rd of the time he's aloof and watching the windows and tending to himself... "alone time"... the other third he's wanting to play... and the last third is when he wants to curl up next to you and purr himself to sleep. He's a great cat and I'm glad I could be his friend.
Wheres my hammsout?
