Black and White

Spooning, Suppertime, Sleeping, Having her tummy rubbed, Faceplanting against her friend Sienna's butt

Gladys hates when I take Mr. Sockie and hide him from her so she'll stop carrying him around yowling, going to the vet!

Favorite Toy:
Mr. Sockie is her favorite, after twenty-two years, but Giant Mouse runs a close second

Favorite Nap Spot:
Gladys loves her all her beds, alternating between them, and her favorite spot on the quilts by the window - she loves the dog's bed best though

Favorite Food:
Gladys loves her Friskies Senior Turkey and Giblets! The doctor wants her to eat Kidney food, and she likes it, so she eats a bit now and then - she gets her prednisolone in Greenies pill pockes and loves them!

Gladys used to catch bugs and run around, but she's slowed down quite a bit over the past year or two

Arrival Story:
I lost three cats in three years, very sad stories all, and acquired a new cat from the Humane Society, Norma, and didn't want anymore cats. My boyfriend at the time had a friend with a cat who'd just had kittens and he begged me to just go 'have a look'. Gladys' and my eyes met and it was love at first sight. She had markings on her back that looked like a silhouette of Mickey Mouse. We fell in love, beginning of story.

Gladys has always been number two cat, after Norma, but she's also always held her own. A few years ago I found out she has kidney disease, but she's doing really well. She was getting subcutaneous fluids, administered at home, once a week, then twice, then back to once, and now she never gets them at all. She's doing great, and hopefully has a long life ahead of her still. 02/13/05: Update to note that Gladys hasn't had fluids for months now, and she's doing great. She turns 14 April 4th. 06/17/07: Gladys has been holding her own for years now, managed with diet alone, and plenty of love of course. 09/20/08: Gladys loves her friend Sienna who came to live with us last November. She faceplants up against Sienna's butt, just like she used to do with Norma, and Sienna lets her. Gladys is also really looking forward to Halloween (rumor has it she may be getting a lobster costume!) 4/4/10: Gladys' 19th birthday! She had dental work this week, and lost her top left canine, and another tooth! Such a trooper, she had a fibroma removed from her paw too, and is doing so well!!! Gladys is going to be around a long, long time, my super special girlie girl. 4/4/13 - Gladys is 22 years old today! She has issues with sneezing, and the doctor thinks she may have nasal neoplasia, but we forewent the aggressive diagnostic process recently in favor of treating with steroids. Gladys still has subcutaneous fluids once or twice a week and her kidney numbers are steady. She has good energy for an old girl, and a great appetite, loves to spoon still, but gets cranky when I try to brush her. We adopted a little chihuahua mix two years ago, and he is merely a curiosity to Gladys. Profile main picture is recent!
