Arrival Story: I had mentioned to a coworker involved in cat rescue that I'd like to foster pregnant moms-to-be & help raise the kittens, so when kitten season hit (March 2008), she sent me an email about 4 mamas and mama-to-be's that had been turned in to a local shelter. I went to the shelter to pick up one, and they gave me "the pregnant Siamese mix". There was no specific info about why she was in the shelter, but she was quite friendly and in very good condition.

Bio: I picked her up on March 21, the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach. "Johann Sebastian" didn't sound like a good name for such a lovely lady, so I called her "Anna Magdalena Bach" after Bach's second wife. She was with me just over a week before giving birth to five healthy kittens on 3/31/08 (one black/white, one grey tabby, one tortie with white, and two white that later developed color on the ears & tails). I hated to leave the house before the kittens were born because I wanted to be home for the birth! I'd drive home at lunch, even though it's 20 miles, to see if she'd had the kittens yet. It happened that I got up around 3:30 am on the morning of 3/31 to go to the bathroom -- I checked on her while I was up (she was secluded in the bathroom at the time), and saw that she was licking at her "nether region". . . when I looked closer, I saw that she was actually licking a kitten that had just been born & was still in the birth membrane! So I stayed up the rest of the night to be by her side while the other four kittens were born. She had a pretty easy time with all the births; the only time I felt the need to help was when she seemed to be uninterested in licking the membrane off one of the white kittens -- I washed the membrane off, and the other white kitten was born very quickly thereafter - a much shorter interval between births than with the others.
Update: Anna was adopted by a wonderful lady who writes "Anna and I are about to celebrate our first Christmas together. She continues to do well and can be quite entertaining most of the time"

Only one of my five kittens is still here with me -- Adagio, my little boy. I keep wondering if he was switched at birth, since he's a long-hair black & white bicolor and I'm, well - short-haired. . . but foster Meowmi assures me she was there the whole time while my kits were being born, and nobody snuck in with a long-haired orphan!
Foster Meowmi was out of town for a few days, and when she got back, she discovered that all of our furmily had received blue-ribbon rosettes for "Best in Show"! Pretty fun, huh? I actually received two of them! We're picking some of our furriends now to send rosettes to.
Today Foster Meowmi stuffed Andrea & myself into carry-boxes & hauled us off to an "adoption show" -- we had to sit in cages while prospective adoptors walked by & looked at us. One lady took a fancy to Andrea. . . I'm not sure why - she's STRIPED, for goodness sakes!! I'm MUCH more elegant. Foster Meowmi took me out of my cage and held me in case the lady wanted to hold me too - but she just wanted to hold Andrea. . . well, there's no accounting for taste, I guess!
