We adopted Lola in March of 2008, after our sweet boy Fritz died from Saddle Thrombus very suddenly.
Lola was approximately 8 months old, and we found her at the Toledo Humane Society. She had been found and brought in just that week. Lola was still recovering from being spayed when we went to pick out a kitty. We entered the cat room and were looking at all the cats, and our backs were to Lola's side of the room. We heard a lot of commotion and sqauling coming from behind us, and turned to see what all the noise was about. She was the littlest cat in the room, but was doing her darndest to make sure we noticed her. We visited with her in a private room for a few minutes, and knew almost instantly she was the one we were looking for, and would fit in well with our other fur members at home.
She has blended in very well, and has helped us get over the deep hurt of losing Fritzy. It's almost as if Fritz is living on within Lola, as she has started doing so many of the antics that Fritz was famous for. Fritz loved to lay in the bathtub after we took a shower, and now Lola has started doing it too, with no regard to getting wet - she just like Fritz loves the water. She also seems to seek out his favorite sleeping spots, and out of all the cat toys laying around, she has chosen his favorites as hers as well. I had a very difficult time breaking Fritz of jumping on the kitchen counter, in fact I never really accomplished it. I never had any trouble keeping Jackie and Gidget from doing it, but now Lola has proven to be just as stubborn in that area as Fritz was. When I make her get down, she stands up on her back legs and swats her front paw at me, as if to let me know she's unhappy that I made her get down. Fritz would do the same thing, right up to the day before he died. Lola is a milder temperment than Fritz, but they are kindred souls I believe. There will never be another Fritz, but she keeps our household interesting, while being such a sweetheart you can't help but love her. Please visit our blog at http://blog.werelivingwell.com.
